Howdy folks. Heard about this place and thought I'd wade in. Glad to see so many familiar names. I'm a registered republican and proud of that fact, but I can't stand Trump and most of what he says and does. He only pretends to be Republican in my view, so my posts here will likely reflect that and I'm sure many of my views already have me labeled as a Liberal. To be clear, I came from a long line of Republican Party voters but my wife and kids are all Liberal, so it can make for some interesting conversations at times. Hey, I remember this malcontent... good to see you! A lot of us don’t like Trump. But, IMO, he won the election so he gets my support as long as he isn’t trying to tear us down. I don’t like him as a person, but he doesn’t deserve the liberals hate like he has been getting. welcome to sane, rational arguing. ~GOODave

Speaking as perhaps the biggest Trump supporter on this board, NeverTrump Republicans--and any clear-thinking people--are certainly welcome here. In fact, they--or at least what I might call "Trump-skeptical"--may even constitute a majority on this forum. Hope you enjoy. p.s. I see you "liked" my post about what Trump accomplished by vanquishing HRC, so you could hardly be called a liberal. As long as a person on the Right has not gone so far off the reservation as has Bill Kristol or George Will, there's room for conversation. Those guys--IMHO--have been infected with TDS, which is usually restricted to CNN and MSNBC viewers.

Welcome Not4u13,
Your views are important to me as a right of center guy, libertine minded dude! You will be able to back up MDDads distain for Trump so he won't feel so lonely here! I get it, I do not knock those whom do not like his character or style. I understand to a point those whom think he isn't far enough right on some issues. I know many "Never Trumpers" think he is a fake Republican with Liberal connections. Example those whom would support a Ted Cruz as a further right candidate then get nullified by a guy whom simply coined "Lyin Ted"! So there are those whom doubled down against Trump and once he won didn't want to soften their stance.
Yet here we are with President Trump. He may be a bully or a blowhard yet he is a fighter for many things I feel America is tearing on losing, namely the courts and the Constitution. And with all the Rinos or spineless representation we have had against the evil tactics of the Democrats and their accomplices in the media I am not sure I or we have time to worry about how Trump gets what he gets..... defending the greatest document written and putting a wall of knowledge about that document before and in to the Supreme Court.
Ya Trump may be the guy on your block the pompous punk but he is sticking up for those living on that block, I am learning to live with him and at times loving him. And every time I start to see to much scorn thrown on him from fellow Republicans, Libertarians or even Independents I simply say, "hey you want another 8 years of Obama"!

Any newbie who can back up my disdain for Trump should wear that ability as a badge of honor.

I certainly don't. As I said a long time ago on TOB, I think he is an apolitical animal. He is driven by his ego, his brand and his wallet. He will take whatever position is necessary to further those three things, and anything that gets in the way of that is disposable, whether it's ideas or people. I agree with much of what he's trying to do. But I need a president who is more than just policy. I need one who inspires with character. And in that area, Trump is one of the most reprehensible assholes I can ever remember.

Not4u is a friendly combatant from the old Empire threads when Cypress & Pacifica were knocking each other around in 06-09. He's a good guy, and a welcome addition. Welcome aboard Not4u. Trump was not my first choice, but all he has done is kicked a lot of ass. He made me a believer. He has a done a great job despite the BS he has gone through. Besides, I was serious about leaving the country if hiLIARy made it in.

I agree with much of what he's trying to do. But I need a president who is more than just policy. I need one who inspires with character. And in that area, Trump is one of the most reprehensible assholes I can ever remember. See, now, on this part, we agree more than we disagree. I stop short of branding him a reprehensible asshole, and I would also add he is (also) driven by his marketing research... and, in fact, I believe his marketing research is responsible for his win this time around and was not used the last time he ran and lost. where our opinions of the President (as opposed to our opinions of the man) will diverge is I’m seeing that he actually IS doing something beneficial. I appreciate what he is doing because we had to suffer through 8 years of that puppet Muslim racist and all his UNbeneficial mishandling of... well, everything. I appreciate whatever he does manage to do because of all the stubborn, selfish and petty hatred and obstruction thrown in his way, so while he hasn’t done everything he promised, I’m reminded of an old saying the televangelist used to say on his TV pleas for money: “Please be patient, God’s not finished with me yet.”

Number of posts. I thought sage was cool. Not sure what's after sage though I was going to suggest “sophist” but in this day and age, people relate that more to someone who is adept at the use of fallacious logic. We could use it tongue-in-cheek, of course, but I’m not sure newbies would “get it.” so, now, I’m leaning towards “Elder” or “Statesman.”

If we're going down the plant road, should probably stay in the edible herbs genre.
How does basil sound?
