Having been a fairly consistent news consumer for the past 20 or so years (and more intensely the past several years), I thought I'd share some of my own go-to sources for news and opinion from a conservative perspective. The liberal perspective is in the air we breathe and provides the background noise that is impossible to miss. Getting the view from the Right takes a bit more work. Some of my favorites--and please share some of your own: National political news: Real Clear Politics: www.realclearpolitics.com/ - news aggregator that includes articles from all political perspectives, so you can see what both the Left and the Right is saying about the events of the day. From this site I have discovered numerous other outlets for conservative commentary. Television: Fox News (Hannity, Tucker, Ingraham); One America News Network: www.oann.com/Conservative commentary and analysis:The Federalist: thefederalist.com/ - online magazine and podcast that covers politics, policy, culture, and religion American Greatness: amgreatness.com/ - excellent writers (Victor Davis Hanson, some others from Claremont Institute) and commentary National Review: www.nationalreview.com/ - the longtime gold standard of conservative thought; went NeverTrump in 2016 but continues to have excellent writers American Thinker: www.americanthinker.com/ - conservative articles and blog Claremont Review of Books: www.claremont.org/ - if your looking for something more intellectual Public Discourse: www.thepublicdiscourse.com/ - again, more from an intellectual and philosophical perspective Blogs, Columnists: The Last Refuge: theconservativetreehouse.com/ - normally I'd be wary of an anonymously-authored website but "Sundance" here is one of the best sources on the Trump administration and the Deep State and Resistance efforts to undermine the 2016 election. I've learned more here on these issue than anywhere else. Seems to be three steps ahead of everyone. Matt Walsh (The Daily Wire): www.dailywire.com/authors/matt-walsh - no-holds barred opinion pieces by one of the Right's fine young writers Video: Prager University: www.prageru.com/ - created by conservative radio host Dennis Prager, the site features 5-minute videos on various political, economic and philosophical topics from a conservative perspective. The videos include helpful graphics and are hosted by various people who are typically expert on the topic, and so simple even a liberal can understand them. If you have a son/daughter/grandchild you want to inoculate from left-wing radicalism, this is the place to go. Dennis Prager even spoke to the entire Servite H.S. student body in 2015. Most of the students loved it, and I use a number of these videos in my classes, doing my part to counter the liberal hegemony in the mainstream media.

Those are pretty good. I like the Mises Institute - mises.org/ The Mises Institute exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian school of economics, and individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard. These great thinkers developed praxeology, a deductive science of human action based on premises known with certainty to be true, and this is what we teach and advocate. Our scholarly work is founded in Misesian praxeology, and in self-conscious opposition to the mathematical modeling and hypothesis-testing that has created so much confusion in neoclassical economics. Skews more libertarian.

Yes, the Mises Institute is a good source for libertarian economics. Have read several of Murray Rothbard's works as well. If you know Mises, you may be familiar with LewRockwell.com ( www.lewrockwell.com/ ), which promotes itself as anti-state, anti-war, pro-market. From 1999-2006 I was a daily reader, and was even invited to blog for their site, which I did for about a year. The demands of little kids and my teaching career took me away from the site, but I have to give LRC and some of its writers credit for enlightening me on a number of important issues during that time in my life.

Another good conservative website is The Stream ( stream.org/ ), which includes many good writers (John Zmirak is a favorite of mine). When I first began to explore the internet about 20 years ago I nursed on such sites at WorldNetDaily ( www.wnd.com/ ) and Townhall ( townhall.com/ ), and they continue to be excellent sources of conservative news and commentary. There are so many good sites--thanks be to God--you just have to settle on a few or risk getting overwhelmed by information overload. The American Conservative, which has a print and online edition, was founded by Pat Buchanan and other about 15 years ago and continues to be dedicated to "principles above party." ( www.theamericanconservative.com/ ) In my hasty focus on the internet, I almost forgot one of my favorite sources of conservative thought: Chronicles: A Magazine of American Culture. Yes, this is an actual magazine, printed monthly (50 pages) and published by the Rockford Institute and edited by Chilton Williamson, Jr. It has been around for about 40 years with a relatively small circulation. I have been a subscriber for almost 20 years and never miss reading almost the entirety of every issue--can't recommend it enough. Not a news outlet, it contains a variety of essays on culture, politics, history, literature, and music. An island of sanity in a soundbite world. Joe Sobran (look him up if you are unfamiliar), originally a syndicated columnist for National Review, was a longtime presence until his passing several years ago. It also has a much-improved online presence, but I would recommend getting the actual print version, just to reduce your screentime. ( www.chroniclesmagazine.org/magazine/ ) Chronicles is probably the leading exponent of what may be called Paleoconservatism, in which "camp" of conservatism I personally would most likely reside (if I could also fuse this with a traditional Catholicism). This school of thought is heavily influenced by the thought of Russell Kirk, whom many consider to father of modern conservatism in America, dating back to the publication of his book, The Conservative Mind: From Burke to Eliot, in 1954. Here a couple of good summaries of paleoconservatism: From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PaleoconservatismFrom the editor of Chronicles, "What is Paleoconservatism?": web.archive.org/web/20041205111513/http://chroniclesmagazine.org/Chronicles/January2001/0101WilliamsonPaleo.html

I enjoyed a lot of what I've read and listened to regarding the Austrian economics. Not really a fan of open borders though. Probably why I'm an independent.
It'd be very cool to discuss the pros and cons of the various economic theories. Feel free to throw out a topic. Love getting my learn on about this stuff.

Austria and Ludwig Von Mises!
My family is from Austria and I still have family there. Let me tell you, what was once a very conservative nationalistic society is now very liberal. And yes Bick, many Austrians are pro immigration or "open border". What is so crazy is that their country is so small and it will take no time to erase and remove all of their culture. My grandparents are no longer alive but they would be heartbroken to see this sentiment in their homeland. I think Europe will rue one day what they enabled.
But back to economics! Von Miss and Milton Friedman!!

Austria may not be as open as you remember it. Here is an article I cited on that other board, (which shall not be named): And the 'anti immigration far-right" did win that election as reported in this article:

Okay, well that was way too big. I couldn't figure out how to shrink it, or even delete it. Anyway this is Sebastian Kurz 31 year old Chancellor Elect. Populist, Conservative, Nationalist. And the links don't take you where I wanted to direct you.

Did you paste the link directly into the body of the response, or did you use the "Create Link" function? Kurz Brexit Delay

I pasted it directly. I saw the "create link," but it wanted two things to be entered, and I only knew what to put in one of those boxes.

P. Fate, yes there is a swing at traditionalism now taking root.... similar to what Trump is doing in America. And just like here the right in Austria is being branded racist and extreme by the open border Europa crowd.

I check in here often for links to good reads. The forum itself is very pro conservative but it is a good read to see how other are chiming in across the country. It's tough here in Cali sometimes to even know what goes on outside our state borders. www.freerepublic.com/tag/news-forum/index

Hillsdale College, one of the handful of top-notch and non-liberal-infected citadels of higher-ed, offers a whole myriad of free online courses on topics such as Politics & Government (always from a Constitutional perspective), Literature, History, and Religion. Great for the autodidact who appreciates the best in Western Civilization. www.hillsdale.edu/academics/free-online-courses/You can also get a free subscription to Imprimis, thei college's monthly publication--whose excellent archived articles can also be accessed here: imprimis.hillsdale.edu/

I found out about Hillsdale College after reading some books by Victor Davis Hanson. He's a classical historian who has written widely about ancient Greece and the Peloponnesian War. More recently he has written about modern military history, and I see where he is an occasional source and contributor to Fox News.
He is an outstanding lecturer - in terms of voice, vocabulary, insight and clarity - and he does so for Stanford and Hillsdale College. Hillsdale is an interesting place because it's one of the few colleges that doesn't accept government grants and therefore does not have to comply with all the indeterminable federal regulations regarding curriculum, etc.
There's just not enough time to read all this information. Some of us have to work......................Luca
