What do you think about this suit and settlement. Personally, I don't like the idea of retroactively paying players like that. I know this hotly debated in HS sports. Perhaps some lawyers should get together with HS students and file a suit. MD, don't tell me already filed a retroactive lawsuit... Was there a settlement? I was looking for a thread on NIL, because I remember us talking about that in HS sports but couldn't find it. NIL, with this latest lawsuit, but deserve its own thread.

NIL rules and the right to unlimited transfers will ruin college and high school sports. Period.

Hard to stop it without infringement on freedom rights.
That genie has left the bottle.

Hard to stop it without infringement on freedom rights. That genie has left the bottle. I agree somewhat, but personal rights can be limited by mutual contractual agreements. What if every college player signed a contract that says the college will agree to give him a five-year scholarship to play four years and earn a degree, while the player will agree to remain in school for the length of the contract. If either side breaks the contract, the other party has the right to sue. That might slow down this wholesale player movement. As it is right now it's a joke, and it will only get worse. If college strudents insist on behaving like professional athletes and free agents, they should be treated as such.

Head Coach or coordinator leaves and perceived benefit for athlete lowers when new staff brings in "their" guys.
Seems all the good players with next level aspirations would have a problem with that whether in college or HS.
Maybe the answer is to separate the athletes into academy level (HS) and playoff level (college) v traditional (non xfer) HS & college?

I’m starting to lose interest in college football for the same reason that I lost it for high school football, or more specifically, parochial football. It’s so ironic that you now have more integrity in professional football than you do in either college or high school. In the NFL at least they follow their rules, unlike the current situation in parochial football. And with the NIL and unlimited transfers, college football is nothing more than the Wild West played by a bunch of ringers. The NFL to its credit doesn’t assault you with hypocrisy, unlike high school and college with its pretensions of “student athletes’ and traditions.
Why was HSFB so fascinating? Because the players actually represented the schools, their traditions, instilled values and had continuity. You could watch kids develop from freshman year through senior, and could see that hard work and good coaching made a difference. The rivalries were real and the games were more than just a platform for recruiting. HS games now carry little more meaning than JC games, where the quality is actually better.
It’s continuity - the players - that really makes these games interesting. Do you follow simply the “program”, the uniforms, or are you actually following the players? When the LA Rams moved to St. Louis I followed them for several years because I knew the players and wanted to see how they did. That’s where my loyalty was. I didn’t follow them just because they were initially associated with Los Angeles. But after several years when the players retired I lost interest in the Rams until they returned to LA and I could get to know the players again. Ask yourself if the rosters of the Rams switched with the 49ers, would you automatically stay a Rams fan simply because they play in Los Angeles or would you be more of a 49ers fan because you had grown fond of the players?
So NIL and the no harm no foul Collège transferring will make Collège football as fascinating as roller derby as far as I’m concerned. Parochial football where the game are predetermined by the recruiters and admissions offices is already in the rear view mirror.
Go Rams………….Luca

On the HSFB issue, it's more than the parochials that have gone down the xfer road. It's pretty much all the higher division schools or those wanting to compete at that level.
I agree it's hurting the interest. Mine has waned as well.
