On Wednesday, Baseball returned you our area with the launch of The Kernel League. the announcement was made back in April that our Prospect League (Summer Collegiate Baseball league) was cancelled this year because of COVID nonsense. a local owner of the Prospect League, who is also the operating partner of our local team, The Cornbelters, decided we would play baseball. So he got on the horn, first, to the Illinois Dept of Public Health to see if a shorter baseball season was even possible. They had several constraints, but yes it was possible, so was born the Kernel League, made up of four teams, with all local players and coaches (who, you’ll recall, have not played baseball since March, and were excited to be invited to play). a flurry of activity ensued and July 1 was announced as opening day... oh, and I was hired as their PA announcer. Every day between July 1 and Aug 9, is a doubleheader, with Monday’s and Tuesday’s off. So, with four teams, each team plays each night, and they switch off as home team. opening night, we had close to 1100 fans in the stands, which was about 3X the fans at any single game last year. Tonight and tomorrow night, we have fireworks after the games so we are anticipating a sell out crowd. this is my view of the games... (before the Gates opened Wednesday night)... not sure why it’s sideways. 🤷🏻♂️

I n the minors, a major change as the Atlantic League plans to move the mound back a foot
I'd like to get your thoughts on this. Honestly, I don't understand the need. I don't know if it WILL make the ball easier to hit, like they say, but my question is, "at what cost?" I know several pitchers, but have never been one, myself: What will it do to the pitchers' arms having to hurl that cutter another 12" ... for a whole season. Thoughts?

This is a hard pass. Imagine having to relearn where your breaking ball would have to begin the break, and then unlearn it when you moved on.

This is idiotic, like any leftist change proposals that have not been thought out. If you want fewer homeruns, just tell those Haitian slave women to wrap the baseball less tightly.

Does fishing count as a sport?

Sport fishing counts in this forum. Sometimes.
You remember the opening of that show. The part about the "agony of defeat?" Well, the skier that fell down in that montage finally couldn't take it being shown every week and killed himself. I heard that the other day and felt sorry for him. It is bad enough to take a fall like that, but to watch it week after week on the most popular sports show at the time, was devastating.

No kidding. That was bad intel. Well that is great news Bick. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I heard it on a Bible study from the 90's just the other day.
