Looks like I'll have to keep my day job and give up the the comedy routine.

We trade a lot of barbs on this forum about transfers, the "recruiting" of athletes, "tuition assistance" and other shady things that may be going on. However we rarely look beyond high school football in our discussions. Here's an example that might go unnoticed:
The JSerra girls track team won a CIF Southern Section championship yesterday with the highest point total ever, and had five girls take the top five spots in the 800 meters. How is that possible for a small private school in a remote corner of Orange County that charges almost $23,000 in annual tuition...unless maybe there's some hanky-panky going on?

The expression people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones is first found in Geoffrey Chaucer’s Troilus and Criseyde, written in 1385. And yet, it still applies...

Mater Dei has 15 out of the top 20 offensive and defensive line prospects in Orange County. That's the problem. It's not taking the top guys or girls that makes it impossible to compete. It's taking their backups and their backups that has made some high school sports uncompetitive. 20 years ago, almost every school had a guy who could start at the dominant schools. That is not the case anymore.

Don't think many here give much of a rip about anything beyond football. When you've only played in a handful of games that were decided by less than 3 TD's with anyone not telling you to fear a spear in the past 8 years, it's pretty hard to argue you still belong playing local teams competitively, or to think anyone would be OK with it. Hearing either you, SJB or both are exploring a national level league. I part company with the rest in thinking you are doing anything wrong. I don't think you are. If a 4-5 star kid is willing to sit behind another for 3-4 years, good for him. All your prep / coaching is about getting to the next level, and that's got to be appealing to some parents who might otherwise be concerned of overuse that a dude would likely endure at a lower level school by being a 2-way player. At MD & Bosco, only a handful would play most of the snaps on 1 side of the ball.

I agree with Bick. Nothing wrong with kids going to Mater Dei or Bosco. It's just that no local teams can compete with them, so why do we put them in the same division to be slaughtered? You can have a generational team and lose by 30-50 points.

My gut turns every time a new post is made in the "transfer" thread, and thats before I read it. At least MDDad pointed out what many have for at least a decade now.

MD didn't build their program thru transfers. They've done it thru the youth travel programs like the OC Buckeyes and IE Ducks.
Their xfers are not that much. If anything, more leave than arrive.

Transfer, travel, relocate, destination, recruit all have different meanings but the end game is the same. And yes the pipelines giveth and taketh.

That's a great scratcher unless winning the empire league suddenly became a thing.

Tustin is home to the Stupin’s and the Trillion boys 7 on 7 team. They’ve got some club guys over there and are taking advantage of some of those relationships. I wonder if the recent acquisitions at SM will benefit Crean Lutheran, their AA affiliate.
