Pretty sure I'd have handled things a lot less diplomatically when I was a teen if some guy walked up on my and started banging a drum inches from my face.

I read a great quote today that summarizes the type of media information we are getting these days:
"It used to be that the news would report what happened and then we would decide how to think about it.
Now the news reports how we should think about something and then we have to decide if it really happened."
This is the Duke University lacrosse rush to judgment all over again.......Luca

The media targeted these kids because they were:
White Male Catholic Pro-life and Wore MAGA Hats.

Hey Prof...
That the media went after them is not all that surprising. How some continue to attack not only him, but that Today show gal because of the interview, is what's got me shaking my head.
Worse yet is calling Phillips some kind of hero for walking up on that kid and beating his drum in his face.

And my understanding is that he and his group tried to crash and disrupt a Catholic mass that same day, and had to be locked out.

This story hit me particularly hard since Covington Catholic is an all-boys school like where I teach at Servite. The way he handled himself, I would be proud to have Nick Sandmann as a son. Not sure what else he could have done with that older man beating a drum in his face.
This has to be one of the most shameful episodes of media malice and hysteria in recent history. Yes, Duke Lacrosse for the social media age. Hopefully some media members and others in the Twitter lynch mob get sued good and hard for libel. It's the only way to stop that kind of character assassination.

I don't know how successful they will be, but his family just hired a libel attorney.

Media does what they do... entertain. That's not what bugs me that much.
It's the SJW's and the blatant malice that is still shocking.
We recently had a kid at Los Al lose both his scholarship offers after getting doxxed followed by a full on attack of the schools that offered him.
Why? Because he walked over and lifted a kid who was kneeling for the national anthem at an assembly, and someone videoed it and put it out on Twitter. Of course he should have kept his hands to himself. But no way he could've taken THAT kind of heat.

Nick Sandman is a very bright and articulate 16 year old. He handled the interviews much better than 90% of the college athletes. He will also be very rich. Oh the irony, the very media that attacked him will make him wealthy.

I saw some of that piece that Bill Maher did on Nick Sandmann, and came away thinking of the number of dads I know that would love to have a go with him had he said what he did about their kids.
Real hero that Maher.
It really speaks into the lack of basic civility you see in social media and these chat rooms. You'd never call someone stupid or an idiot for their beliefs to their face. But this anonymity / crowd courage seems to encourage the increased level of vitriol.

Geez, Bick. I just checked it out on you tube myself. This guy is the last misanthrope on earth to criticize anybody for being a smirking a-hole. Such classic projection. I haven't seen anything by him ever since he referred to US soldiers as "low hanging fruit". That didn't go over to well with me seeing how I had a son deployed in Iraq at the time.
Equal parts superficiality, arrogance and narcissism. ..........Luca

I read where the kid's family has hired a team of lawyers and sent notice to about 50+ individuals and institutions. Including Bill Maher.
Usually if you're a public figure it's very difficult to make a case for slander or libel, but of course this kid was an unknown until he was slandered and libeled. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out but I suspect there will be some people paying to keep it out of court..............................Luca

There's quite a few pulling for him on Twitter to send a big message to those groups. Bill Maher...how that guy gets away with his crap is well past my understanding. The VA governor, who apparently unbeknownst to CNN really is a (D), gets crucified over a 35 yr old photo from when he was in his early 20's, yet Maher gets away with overtly racist comments.
