On the last page of the first section of todays (7/28/19) Register is an Associated Press story that encapsulates the term "Fake News".
Fake News point #1 - The story is about Trumps tweet telling Congressman Cummings he should spend more time helping his district than chasing the Russia hoax. However, the headline for the story is "Trump: Congressman Cummings' majority-black district is rat-infested". Nowhere in the tweet is race mentioned or even inferred, yet the AP chooses to add it to the story. That is not reporting, it is creative writing. One would have to see the world through racist eyes in order to make that tweet racial.
Fake News point #2 - 2nd paragraph in, the story states that the tweet was "the presidents latest assault on a lawmaker...two weeks after he sparked controversy with racist tweets directed at four congresswomen of color". First, stating a fact (West Baltimore is indeed rat infested) followed by a suggestion (Cummings should focus on helping his constituents) is not an assault. Second, the tweets made by Trump about the Squad were rude and not strategically smart, but were not racist by any definition of the word. Third, to again focus on the racial makeup of the people involved in the story makes the author much more racist than Trump could ever be.
Fake News point #3 - The short story ends with this following paragraph:
"The latest comments come as Trump has placed racial animus at the center of his reelection campaign, as he believes his inflammatory rhetoric will strengthen his support among the white working class and attract a new group of disaffected voters who fear cultural changes across America"
Suddenly this news article made a left turn and became an opinion piece. First off, that opinion is incorrect, as was shown in the above examples. Trump isn't making race an issue, rather Trump makes a statement and the left (including most of the media) create a racial animus to it. If racial animus does strengthen Trumps support, the media should be congratulated for their fine job in getting him re-elected. Second, how in the world does this pencil pushing reporter know what Trump believes? He can't even write an unbiased report without including his delusions about the president, I doubt he has any sources that speak directly with the President about his campaign strategy. Lastly, if one chooses that they like the current culture of the US over the past 30 years and would prefer it not to change, why does that mean they "fear" cultural changes? Does that mean that progressives who want to change the culture "fear" the current culture? Again, the writers choice of words makes this story nothing more than an opinion piece by an ignoramus.
One of the things I really feel disheartened about is how a reporter can write this garbage anonymously and hide behind the banner of the AP. It makes it that much easier to spread propaganda when individuals are not held responsible for what they write.
This author reminds me of the pervert who goes to a Psychiatrist. The doctor decides to administer a Rorschach test. Viewing the first image, the patient says "I see two people having sex". The second picture gets the response "That looks like two women getting it on". This goes on & on, every image gets a response about sex from the patient. Finally, the doctor stops and tells the patient "It looks like you have a serious problem", to which the patient responds "Me? You're the one with all the dirty pictures!!"
