Are highly populated cities at a distinct disadvantage simply because of their population density? I'm thinking that's a fair argument unless I can find a highly populated, well run city. For 70 years, when urban families found the financial means, many of them moved to the suburbs... Prior to that, the wealthiest people lived closest to the centers of cities and the poor lived on the outskirts. Today is the complete opposite when it comes to cities. Orange County, which in effect is one big city (no spacing between its cities) is like the cities of the past. Most of the wealthy live on the coast, the middle class a bit inland and those that run crappie websites live in the Inland Empire. It is a bit of a chicken & egg scenario. Did the wealthy move out of the center of cities because they became run down or did those areas become run down because the wealthy moved out? I don't think population is the sole determining factor, but population density is. In Orange County, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Irvine and Huntington Beach are the 4 largest cities by population. Those cities run the gamut of being run poorly to being run well. However, when it comes to density, Midway, Stanton, Santa Ana & Garden Grove top the list. Older communities, packed tighter with less open space, I would suggest these four cities are in the lower half of the well run rankings.

This is an interesting thread. I had no idea. Those are some astonishing statistics.
I can’t believe I’ve forgotten how to do basic statistics but I believe that the random probability of 9 out of 10 mayors in the worst run cities being Democrats is 11/1024, essentially 1%.
The random probability of 3 out of the 5 mayors in the best run cities being Republican is 10/32 or roughly 32%. Color me biased but, by George, I think I spot a trend here.........................
For those of you homesick for those TOB knee-jerk responses:
The Vilepagan response: "Cities with mostly disadvantaged citizens will not have sufficient resources to fund services because the wealthy elitist 1% have impoverished them and those oppressed will therefore vote Democratic because Democrats care, unlike that racist scum in the White House."
The JQ response: "You’re banished and from now on your name is forever orange."
The Wabash response: "I know you are but what am I?"..........................Luca

Those solutions are so simple and obvious that they clearly won't be considered and, if proposed, will be called "racist."

Very good read, grounded in solid principles. I think that is exactly why I find politics so frustrating, there seems to be clear path of thought to issue or problem solving yet many can't not see it, or won't.

O.K., responding to a 2-year old post, 🙄 I get it... but its billb's fault: He resurrected the thread and I just noticed SK8's comment... I. might have said this before, but SK8's right: There IS some clear, actionable solutions that democrats, for some reason, never try. which causes me to wonder what their end goal is: Surely they don't intend to rule over these cesspools of poverty and crime, do they? But what other goal do they have in mind, especially considering the states they have driven into the ground, and now the nation they're doing it to... I don't gt it.
