Update: On Apr. 19, I wrote JQP a lengthy private message detailing why we left his forum. I never received a reply. So last Friday, I PM'd him again saying, "After contributing to this forum for almost 11 years, serving as a moderator and helping you run the annual football pool, I'm disappointed that my message to you wasn't even deserving of a reply."
He finally wrote back. Among his comments were, "I kept your PM open for about a week but I've been very busy with RL and trying to keep the site working and I didn't have time to sit down and try to "properly word" a reply, so maybe I won't bother trying.
"I miss the traffic and the occasional well thought-out posts but I don't miss the far-right, Trumpist, Kool-Aid-drinking, victim-card-playing, "but her emails" nonsense. I don't have much patience for the garbage being spewed by so-called "Republicans" these days.
"I hope you enjoy your echo chamber and you'll be welcome back if the country ever comes to its senses."
So a guy who runs a forum that is the Grand Canyon of echo chambers has the gall to use that term to refer to another site. Just how blind are these guys?

I looked up "Snark" in the dictionary and they referenced that JQP reply.
As far as "echo chamber", it is obvious he hasn't read the multiple threads where you & I have differing opinions on topics. Maybe he can't fathom civil disagreement, it is something that just does not compute with him.
One thing that struck me as the most blatant difference between the two sites is humor. TOB is so humorless, they come across as a bunch of virgin scolds.
JQP is a little man and now has a little website to match.

Do you remember the motto on the top of TOB? “Where everyone’s entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it may be.”
Note that that it takes up the entire allotted space on the top of the page, which is probably why the remainder of the sentence was left out: “.......just not here.”
It’s a curious response. I would have expected him to be more civil. The reason he is not is because he’s angry, and it shows. The use of terms like “Kool-Aid drinking“ “Trumpist“, and “far right“ , etc are simplistic pejoratives used by ideologues, and I never thought JQ was an ideologue. Liberal, but at least a considered liberal. He’s angry because his board is a shadow of its former self, and I think he knows that he himself is largely to blame for that. Rather than face an unpleasant truth, he lashes out and castigates others.
He refers to “nonsense” while tolerating the most simple minded buffoon I’ve ever come across in Wabash/e rosewater. I even asked him once when he admitted that Wabash was of limited intelligence why he tolerated the guy’s endless prattling. He avoided answering. I suspect they’re personal friends. That’s understandable, but it established an obvious double standard on the board for everyone to see.
Ultimately, I think this entire sequence was simply a manifestation of what’s going on nationwide, with increasing polarity. People who used to be able to converse are now so locked into their opinions that any disagreement is considered an attack requiring a response, and it becomes a race to the bottom.
Seems like it always comes down to my favorite Bob Dylan line:
“Yes my guard stood hard when abstract threats too noble to neglect Deceived me into thinking I had something to protect.”

It's probably a hundred years too early to say this, but I think Bob Dylan will be remembered as one of the great poets of the 20th century. He can't sing worth a lick, but when I hear Joan Baez sing his stuff it still blows me away. It was Dylan and Baez that turned me into the rabid liberal of my youth.

If you're up to it, might be fun to do a football pool or 2 here. As for JQP, I guess he must've been bitten on a recent visit to Transylvania.

I hated those guys, and all you rabid liberals who fell under their spell. I was always a right wing, law and order loving, war-monger from way back. You're right about Dylan not being able to sing. (My son can do a great Bob Dylan impression). But Dylan WAS a great poet, and had some classic lines. My favorite is this passage at the end of "Positively 4th Street": "I wish that for just one time, you could stand inside my shoes, And just for that one moment, I could be you. I wish that for just one time, you could stand inside my shoes, Then you'd know what a drag it is to see you."

I personally felt TOB lost its way when PP and others started all of that "Lodge" nonsense in response to Palin being chosen as a VP candidate. It got real nasty real fast.

Well, you guys inspired me, so against my better judgment I sent JQP the following private message. I have a feeling it will be the end of our conversation:
“I hope you enjoy your echo chamber and you'll be welcome back if the country ever comes to its senses.”
With all due respect, John, you now run the Grand Canyon of echo chambers, so it’s a little surprising to think you would use that term to refer to another forum you’ve never seen.
And by this country “coming to its senses”, I assume you mean things like:
Eliminating all use of carbon fuels in 30 years? Guaranteeing “free” health care, a living wage and a comfortable home for every person in America? Eliminating student debt and college tuition? Eliminating all cow flatulence by eliminating all cows? Eliminating domestic air travel and replacing it with high speed rail? Retrofitting every building in America? Increasing the size of the Supreme Court so there can be more liberals on it? Eliminating the Electoral College? Changing the Senate to make it represent a state’s population? Continuing to marvel at the intellectual brilliance of Alexandia Ocasio-Cortez?
As I’ve said several times, I wish you the best of luck (with that).

No offense, but in my rarely humble opinion that’s the wrong approach, Dad. You know you’re never going to have the last word over there so why bother? You could prove the Pythagorean Theorem and they’d still tell you you’re clueless.
Best to take the highroad and wish JQ luck (which he will need, since it looks like the President stands a good chance of reelection) and thanks for the pre 2016 memories. There were some good times spent over there and I’d leave it at that. Take the high road whenever possible. You can always sprint downhill when the situation calls for it............Luca

I'll disagree with Luca here, JQP has shown time after time he deserves to be shoved in the mud & wrestled with.
If you go through the stunts he (they) has pulled since 2008 that led to the banning of Dave, Red, myself and many other conservative voices, it makes you realize the dude is a coward. I have said from Day 1 that it is his website and he is entitled to do with it as he chooses, but the hypocrisy of the sites moniker compared to the real world actions of its operator is embarrassing. Just call the site "A place where all liberals are safe" and leave it at that.
I know, I know, it is rude to speak ill of the dead (website)...

I never got banned and didn’t put in as much effort as MDDad did. So I suppose I have the luxury of not being as annoyed as you two.
My expectations weren’t that high to begin with anyway..............Luca

If JQP had real confidence in his ideas, he wouldn't be afraid to debate them in the arena. Instead, he chose the path well-worn by many a tyrant throughout history: silence the opposition.

I disagree with all y’all (that’s the plural, you know, of “y’all” which can be singular or plural).
But, then, I’ve never been able to give those nimrods the last word, so I can SAY “I’d send him no response” all I want, but we all know it’s not accurate.
EXCEPT for that final PM he sent me in TOB telling me (Vile had) banned me for life... I let him have the last word that time because he kicked me out shortly after I read it.
