Greetings from the former “GOODave” who was banned from TOB a few years back when JQP brought a troll from another board and made him a moderator specifically to get rid of me. Looking forward to rekindling some of those old relationships.

Sounds like JQP has a history of deporting people and then building walls to keep them out.
Ironic, I would say, considering the circumstances which led to my own exile.

I hate to start on a somber note, but we had the 50th reunion of the Class of '68 about four months ago, and I was shocked to see that 36 classmates had already passed away, including Wayne Bugbee, Larry Golden, Eric Janes, Bob Kogler, Neal Lambeth and Donny Temple from that '67 CIF championship football team. Time passes quickly if you're not paying attention. |

A little more than 3 weeks in, I've got to say I'm pretty excited about the direction of this forum. Nice work fellas. I'm actually pleased with it also. I had my reservations, believing that it would become what TOB has become...an echo chamber. It hasn't. Add to that the fact that I really don't enjoy talking politics or religion. I felt my only reason for doing so on TOB was to keep the loony left aware that not everybody believes what they do. They thought they had won the culture war, only to get smacked in the mouth by the 2016 election. Two things I've seen over there since we left: 1. They seem lost. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that our post count is higher that their political side's post count. 2. Without anyone to attack (or maybe to troll) they actually seem more reasonable. For example JQP and Vilepagan both admitted today that they think Trump wins in the Supreme Court on this emergency declaration. It is hard to resist gloating when something good happens, and attacking when they say something pathetic, but not as hard as it used to be. And there is that feeling of satisfaction, knowing that they seem to be really missing somebody to get a rise out of.  |

Time passes quickly if you're not paying attention. Dang... I knew about Larry Golden, of course, he died in that cabin fire right after we graduated. Had not heard about Wayne, Eric, or Don. Makes me feel old (and, of course, we all know you and I are not old). in my spare time, I’ve been moderating another community called USPoliticsOnline.com. That community is worldwide, but it is suffering from declining numbers and I’m currently trying to decide whether or not to just let it go. i did find Al (SLK230) and he joined, but I haven’t heard from him for awhile. Good hearing from you, MDDad. Glad you(all) finally broke free. |

Wow this really is a reunion. Welcome Dave. Remember reading your takes from the early days of TOB, and I think the old OC Register board - aka the wild west. Some real characters back then.
Prof...i didn't know you were Lion Hunter. I think we once talked about the old Angelus league from my brief stay at St Anthony's in the very early 70's

BTW, the last time I joined the Libertarian's board, crayegg joined up and ratted me out. What do you mean? He joined the Libertarian (I forget his real handle) had another political board. I joined up because I was tired of the same old liberal BS. crayegg found out it and signed up. He copied some of my posts that was anti-OC Connect board and turned me to JQP and he promptly banned me for 30 days. |

If any of you would like to moderate a High School forum here, let me know and I'll figure out how to get that accomplished. Does high school football (or any other sport) really need its own forum? Why not start high school football threads (or any other topic) in this one? Honestly, there's no reason NOT to have a Sports thread on this site as well. The bulk of the postings on High School side of TOB--at least in 2018--came from the users on this new board. There's probably a way to organize it so the two main forums have their own section. I invited SK80 from the H.S. side of TOB even though he did not post on the Political side; we could extend invitations to any others on TOB who might be interested in a change of scenery. I'm confident there's enough knowledge and insight among the group here to make it work. Hey, don't like guardians of the current institutions, then build your own..... p.s. Does anyone know what happened to Omar Bongo? Considering how much he posted, it seemed like TOB was his sole reason for living. |

I actually PM'd him from TOB maybe ten days ago just to express my hope that he had not taken seriously ill or something. No response.Interesting side note: after my banning I also reached out to some of the libs on political side of TOB, on the chance they might be fair-minded enough to have some sway with JQP. The results: Fordama: sympathetic (the one guy there who would grudgingly acknowledge a point well made; he also posted on the H.S. side) Vilepagan: no response Wabash: "his rules, his board" |
