This seems the most fitting thread for this: Those were the words of Mexico's Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard as he announced Mexico’s intent to sue the U.S. over the deaths of 6 Mexican citizens amongst the 20 deaths in the El Paso mall Saturday. This quote is taken from an article on Fox News, but it is all over the internet. If he wanted to sue the twat that pulled the trigger, I would back him 100%. Suing the government in this situation is a non starter for me. BTW, I read that the shooter not only wanted to kill illegal aliens, he wanted to kill people who didn't take care of the environment. If true, he was all over the board ideologically, although I doubt the mainstream press will print the second part. Word is, they want to extradite the shooter. I don’t think that’s a bad idea, even though they don’t extradite anyone to the U.S... but AFTER he is tried here.

This quote is taken from an article on Fox News, but it is all over the internet. That's an interesting premise - one country suing another for the actions of the second's private citizens. I assume the grounds are that some American agency should have responded more quickly or with greater effectiveness when the El Paso shootings started. If those are the grounds, I would propose the United States counter-sue Mexico (a) for not doing more to prevent 11 million illegal aliens to enter the United States through Mexico, and the costs this country has accrued as a result, and (b) for the actual and punitive costs of the tens of millions of Americans you have died or become addicted from drugs that entered the United States through Mexico. Then let's see how far this piddly-ass lawsuit will go. P.S. It also raises the question of why all those Mexican citizens were shopping at the Walmart in El Paso rather than the one in Ciudad Juarez.

President Trumps ways to reduce gun violence:
- First, we must do a better job of identifying and acting on early warning signs.
- Second, we must stop the glorification of violence in our society.
- Third, we must reform our mental health laws to better identify mentally disturbed individuals who may commit acts of violence.
- Fourth, we must make sure that those judged to pose a grave risk to public safety do not have access to firearms, and that if they do, those firearms can be taken through rapid due process.

I've heard it said repeatedly that other civilized countries also have citizens with mental illness, yet they don't have the mass shootings we do. The difference is that in most of those countries, mental illness healthcare is mandated and administered with or without the consent of the patient. Here, we have moved so far to the left in trying to respect everyone's personal civil rights, that we cant force mental healthcare on adults without their informed consent, even though they are often incapable of providing it. As a result, we have psychotics walking around on every street corner, and if they don't already own a firearm, they can get one at the drop of a hat.
The reason we don't solve this problem (as is true of most of our problems) is because we collectively don't have the will to do what it would take.

I would like to see an armed officer on every campus. The cost is not extravagant. Seems like a good place to start. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Servite's new Dean of Students is the retired Chief of Police of Brea, so I'm confident we'll have good lockdown and safety procedures in place. Not sure if there is any armed presence on campus but I wouldn't be surprised if it's being done quietly. For a few years during 2 different tenures, Servite's principal was a Gold Glove boxing champ (at least that was the rumor among us students) with sneak up on you quietly ninja skills. So, had a shooter come on campus while Fr. Chuck Motsko was in charge, the culprit would have been hit with a barrage of lefts & rights before getting a chance to get the first shot off. (This is how legends grow...)

The reason we don't solve this problem (as is true of most of our problems) is because we collectively don't have the will to do what it would take. Further, if potential mass shooters were sent to mental health centers before committing said acts, the left would claim it is facism. Why? Because a large majority of those taken away would have left leaning views. Look at the political leanings of those who have conducted mass shootings or assassination attempts over the past 60 years. Off the top of my head, the number who were left leaning is over 67%. Therefore, that means the people we are targeting to get put into mental institutions before they hurt someone are left leaning. The left will never address mental health as a problem because it reveals that a majority of those with mental problems who act out on it have their ideology. The left believes in guilt by association, so they instead try to shift the focus to guns.

As an aside & not meant to derail the conversation, I have a newspaper article on my office wall from 2006 that has some immigration statistics from various sources. Included is a graph that shows the rise in the number of illegal aliens in the country from 3.9 million in 1992 to 11.1 million in 2006. It is amazing how the left (not you MDDad) continues to use that 11.1 million number, as if suddenly, in 2006, no more illegal aliens came to this country. Also interesting how that number apparently flattened out at about the same time the Democratic party shifted its position from enforcing border laws to ignoring them. Statistically, it is probable that the number is now between 22 million to 33 million, depending on if the continued growth was the same actual number of aliens or the rate of increase. I would put money that the number of illegal aliens in California alone is approaching the 10 million mark.

A true one-track mind that chronically used THE highest number she could find anywhere for illegals in the U.S., in fact was using “20 million” back in 2006 as I recall. All she ever argued about was what to do about illegal immigration, but she sometimes talked about her turtles hibernating in her back yard or sunroom... im sure you’re not her, RSM: I’ve never heard you mention turtles even once. 😄

So now apparently Japan, Uruguay and Venezuela have warned their citizens about travelling to the U.S. because of the threat of mass gun violence. Venezuela, for Chrissakes! My God, what have we become?

My God, what have we become? Japan should have warned it’s citizens a long time ago. Disneyland just boosted its prices again and that, alone, should dissuade their vacationers from coming. Venezuela citizens mostly come here illegally, anyway, so they aren’t paying attention to anything related to the U.S. other than the promise of actually being able to buy food. who gives a rip about Uruguay? How many visitors do we get from there, annually... 12?

Dave, I agree. But there are now two shithole countries warning their citizens about the risk of travelling to the United States because of personal safety concerns. Who would have ever thunk it?

SK, you should visit it again. Apparently it's safer there than here.

Maybe I'm Bev.
