Right. Servite "accepts" transfers if it's their idea, while MD and/or Bosco actively pursues them regardless of whether the idea ever occurred to the 4 or 5 star players that they want to fill their needs. That statement only makes sense if it were referring to Monarch freshmen players (rather than MD employees) trying to get their frosh or soph friends, (not junior or senior 4 or 5 star starters at other teams, counties, states), to join them at MD. Otherwise it's apples and oranges. Asked and answered in response to your previous questions. Not necessarily. My point there is that if they had been such highly rated, sure-fire future 4 and/or 5 star athletes out of 8th grade, then they would have been on the Bosco or MD freshman team, instead of Los Al's, and Fifita and TMac would have joined them there. For the record, I did have multiple insiders providing me info years ago, but none of them are at Servite anymore, although Credo answers a few questions for me from time to time. And yes, I am a long way away from Anaheim now, and I don't bring up the subject much anymore, because it's a lost cause. But I definitely agree with Bick's statement that teams, especially public schools, should just stop playing Bosco and MD, just like the great Claire Van Hoorbeke did at Anaheim HS. And as to my motives when I do bring it up in answer to some post or another, believe whatever you want to believe. SK80 already answered that more eloquently than I could...I refer you to his answer.

Is it reasonable to assume Servite conducted interviews before making the announcement?

And by the way, we did not have a single transfer among our 22 starters last night. So if we "actively go after them" and "snatch them up", we sure suck at it. The transfer issue is in some ways a red herring now for Mater Dei. The fact is, though, that much of Mater Dei's success since 2016 has been built on some pretty significant transfers: Amon-Ra St. Brown (Servite) + brother Osiris Bryce Young (Cathedral) Sean Dollars (Rancho Cucamonga) Miller Moss (Alemany, then withdrawn only because Covid killed the 2020 season) Raleek Brown (Stockton Edison) Those are only the guys I know of, all of them 4-star and 5-star kids, with one NFL guy already and a Heisman trophy winner. All were the #1 ranked player in their class at their position when they transferred. Most of them the best established players from their former schools, some likely the best the school ever had. And all but the St. Browns joined Mater Dei teams that were already defending CIF champs or runner-ups. The rich got richer at the expense of the schools that developed those kids, that gave them their initial opportunity. With the help of these kids--and others--Mater Dei has become such a Destination School that the reality is that they no longer need transfers to maintain their status. That's no virtue, though; their out-of-the-area sophomores and holdback freshmen are already filled with at least a dozen or twenty kids with D1 offers before they even stepped on campus. I'm not saying the aforementioned transfers are the only reason for the Monarchs' success, far from it. But they almost certainly wouldn't have won the 2017, 2018, and 2021 CIF titles without them. As the kids say, that's straight up facts.

If we no longer need transfers to maintain our level, and this year's starters seem to corroborate that fact, then perhaps ProfessorFate should stop bringing up transfers as one of the great evils of our school. Numerous posters have, without any knowledge, accused of us "going out" and "snatching up" transfers, including kids that never had any intention of coming to Mater Dei. That is ludicrous. When asked to name a single kid we "went out and got" through some nefarious process, I've never gotten anything but crickets in response.
As for your list of five impactful transfers:
(1) As a faculty member at Servite, I assume you know why the St. Brown family couldn't wait to leave your school, and it certainly wasn't because Mater Dei recruited them. It was a delicate issue that I've chosen not to discuss because it would shine a very uncomplimentary light on your school.
(2) Craig Young promised the Mater Dei coaching staff when Bryce was on our 8th-grade 4-Vertical team that he would enroll at Mater Dei as soon as J.T. Daniels was finished at the school, but that he needed to play regularly in the mean time. When J.T. graduated a year early, he was good to his word. There was no recruiting involved.
(3) Sean Dollars had many friends at Mater Dei from his youth football days, including William Nimmo, Keyon Ware-Hudson, Kody Epps, Darion Green and Elias Ricks, and that's why he came to Mater Dei. He was never recruited. And for the record, we certainly didn't win any championships because of Dollars. He played well enough in preleague games, but played like a boy in way over his head when league and the playoffs rolled around. Furthermore, he was never even a starter.
(4) Miller Moss was at Mater Dei for a little over a month, participated in fewer than five practices, and then returned to Alemany. He did not contribute to any football success at MD, and he was never recruited.
(5) Raleek Brown tried to enroll at Mater Dei as a freshman because he knew four or five of our players from youth football and camps. He didn't have the grades to get in. Two years later he had improved enough to qualify. Any efforts to get him into Mater Dei started with his trainer and youth coaches, not anybody at Mater Dei.
So I guess I have to await more names that you and ProfessorFate can propose as examples of kids who never thought of coming to MD but we "snatched them up" anyway. I'll wait.

Interesting read on the ever changing landscape in HS & College football. The effect on HSF players with the new reality of the "Transfer Portal". Transfer portal means fewer opportunities for high school football players Colleges more likely to offer scholarships to older, proven athletes

"Football signing day is not going to be like it used to be.
The college football transfer portal took care of that.
Wednesday, Dec. 21, is the first day high school football players can sign letters of intent with colleges. There will be fewer signees Wednesday than usual on national signing day.
College football programs are going to be more interested in handing a roster spot to a proven college football player than to a high school athlete whose potential is an unknown.
Greg Biggins, football recruiting analyst at the 247 Sports website and the analyst for Bally Sports West’s coverage of Southern California high school football, said the highly-rated high school players won’t be affected that much by the loosened transfer portal rules.
“The final five scholarships that college football teams had to offer for years went to high school kids,” Biggins said. “They didn’t go to the high-end kid, but they’d go to the kid a coach would be willing to take a chance on.
“Now those five scholarships are going to transfer portal guys. Some schools are even giving their final eight to 10 scholarships to transfer portal guys instead of high school kids. And when you do the math, factoring in how many colleges are doing that, it’s crushing to high school kids.”
It’s an especially nasty situation for many high school football players who just finished their senior season.
“Take a kid like Troy Leigber,” Biggins said, referring to the outstanding senior running back/safety at CIF Southern Section and CIF State champion Laguna Hills who would have been a star for any Orange County team. “He missed all of his junior year because of injury and he had no sophomore year because of COVID.
“I’ve seen Troy Leigber play and he’s an unbelievably great player. But he’s not getting recruited like he should because practically nobody gets recruited off of what they did their senior year.”

Not sure I get the thinking behind this. The # of schollies are the same. If anything, I think it increases opportunities for HS kids when scholarship players enter the portal.
Not all of those entering the portal get picked up.

Trent McDuffie, St. John Bosco (Bellflower) When it came to high schools, Trent McDuffie made the grand tour during his four years. He also played at Mater Dei and Servite (twice?).

I should've lined her up to speak to the guys after the Mater Dei semi final game. You were smart not to, or your players would have all committed suicide before she was finished yapping. Kamala must be spending too much time with AOC, because her grandiose, operatic hand gestures while she speaks are absolutely laughable. Watch that video again on mute and just watch her hands. I love the 35- to 40-second mark where it looks like she's cupping her own breasts. What a buffoon.
