SK80 - Think there will be some playoff implications on the line on 11/1 @ NHHS? It's not like D1/2 where EVERYONE makes the playoffs, and unless you're MD or Bosco, you're gunning for the #9 seed. If I follow you here are you looking forward at Los Al @ CDM and a loser could miss the D3 playoffs? Would be surprised if LA or CDM don’t end up 1-2 in Sunset? Are you thinking forward that Edison could be in the equation as well? LA vs CDM loser winds up third in Sunset and does not get a berth?

Malachi Nelson will be at St. John Bosco in January 2020. Bet on it.

I think Los Al / CDM will be for league champs. I think all 3 get in the playoffs.

He's already got a pretty substantial offer - don't think it will be the last. Not everyone thinks its great going to an all-boys school, and the academics @ Los Al are at least on par with Bosco. You know something we don't?

No, everything you say is correct. And I can almost guarantee that the academics at Los Al are better than Bosco's. I hope he does stay, but just looking at recent history.

Here's a first stab at Division 1 & 2 rankings and the opening playoffs match-ups.
Rankings
1 Mater Dei 2 St. John Bosco 3 Centennial/Corona 4 Oaks Christian 5 JSerra Catholic 6 Mission Viejo 7 Bishop Amat 8 Chaminade 9 Serra 10 Servite 11 Norco 12 Sierra Canyon 13 Upland 14 Calabasas 15 Rancho Cucamonga 16 Santa Margarita 17 Valencia/Valencia 18 Vista Murrieta 19 Rancho Verde 20 Lutheran/Orange 21 Notre Dame/SO 22 San Clemente 23 Poly/Long Beach 24 Murrieta Valley
Open Playoffs
Mater Dei v. Chaminade Oaks Christian v. JSerra Catholic Centennial/Corona v. Mission Viejo St. John Bosco v. Bishop Amat
If chalk holds, the 4 teams on the right will be 1 and done that would all have been vying for a championship in D2. If any of them slip out of the top 8, put them into the Final 4 in D2.
Division 2 Playoffs
Serra v. Murrieta Valley Santa Margarita v. Valencia/Valencia Upland v. Lutheran/Orange Sierra Canyon v. Notre Dame/SO Norco v. San Clemente Calabasas v. Rancho Verde Rancho Cucamonga v. Vista Murrieta Servite v. Poly/Long Beach
This is a very balanced division that should be very competitive throughout the playoffs. I'd put Sierra Canyon in the Final 4 along with Norco, Serra & Servite.

...and in the all important Division 3
Rankings
1 Grace Brethren 2 Cajon 3 La Habra 4 Corona del Mar 5 Heritage 6 Cathedral 7 Los Alamitos 8 Lawndale 9 Alemany 10 Redlands East Valley 11 Westlake 12 Paraclete 13 Tesoro 14 St. Francis 15 Santiago/Corona 16 Moorpark 17 Edison 18 Capistrano Valley
Playoff Match-ups
Grace Brethren v. Edison Lawndale v. Alemany Heritage v. Redlands East Valley Corona del Mar v. St. Francis La Habra v. Tesoro Cathedral v. Westlake Los Alamitos v. Paraclete Cajon v. Santiago/Corona
The AL teams are likely Tesoro, Alemany, & Westlake. Moorpark and Capo Valley on the outside looking in.

With all due respect, projecting playoff matchups in June seems a but premature.

Been a habit of mine for a few years. At the end of the year, I look back to see if I was close.

The worst thing about this is that I am sure Servite has its sights set on beating J Serra for 3rd in the Trinity, but that could throw them to the wolves in the Open Division.

Bick, don't underestimate JSerra. I've had an inside seat for these behind-the-scenes shenanigans for 18 years, and they have taken recruiting and tuition "discounting" to levels I've never seen before.

What is your formula to get your projection ranking and playoff teams....? I started with the rankings CIF handed down, and then made adjustments based on whatever info I'm aware of. I think we here spend more time on this than the people who do the polls throughout the year. Again, it's an early pre-season rankings that might change as more info comes in. I might be under-rating Lawndale. I heard they're picking up some Narbonne kids, and they were going to be pretty decent anyway. I think they've got 5 recruitable kids.

Apparently, we are currently in a "dead period" (in H.S. football, not the Joe Biden 2020 campaign) when coaches are not allowed to organize and run practices, but players can still run their own workouts on campus. Is that correct?

Yes, this is the 21-day dead period for most, but not all, schools.
