This also deserves its own thread, now... For your (plural) consideration: This just in and possibly worth consideration (from The NY Times): Mark Sanford Will Challenge Trump in Republican PrimaryYou recall Sanford is a former governor of and U.S. Representative from South Carolina. According to the article, I have yet to check out any of them. So let’s use this new thread to get the candidates as they arise...

Sorry, dudes, to even call these efforts "quixotic" is a stretch. Trump has something like 90% support among Republican voters. When is Jeff Flake jumping in?
Marianne Williamson has a better chance of unseating Trump.

I didn’t know about the 90%, but I do figure Trump will be the nominee.
I am, however, happy that more hats are in the ring. The primaries can’t hurt him (by siphoning off votes, for example) but it DOES give choices for the never-Trumpers and those who want to claim, “I voted for ______________ in the Primary”
I also find it interesting these alternate GOP candidates must believe they have a shot.

I also find it interesting these alternate GOP candidates must believe they have a shot. I cynically believe these folks know they don't have a chance, but are running for two reasons. First, forever more (including in their obituary) they will be introduced as "former presidential candidate..." . Second, it increases their profile, opening doors for other jobs in politics, media or companies that want a face to tie their brand to. So I believe they do it for ego and money.

RSM, I agree. While the alternative GOP candidates must know they have no chance, so must 18 or 19 of the 24 Democratic candidates. They do it to stroke their egos and pave the way for a better future from name recognition.

So far as I know right now, declared GOP candidates, in addition to Trump are: - Mark Sanford: Former U.S representative from South Carolina (1995–2001, 2013–2019) and former Governor of South Cackilackey (2003–2011)
- Joe Walsh: U.S. representative from IL-08 (2011–2013), Conservative talk radio host
- Bill Weld: Former Governor of Massachusetts (1991–1997), Libertarian nominee for Vice President in 2016, Republican nominee for U.S. Senate from Massachusetts in 1996
Mark Sanford is so childish, he would not support the Republican who beat him in the Primaries. Walsh was only a Representative for 2 years and now runs a radio show (AND he is from the most corrupt state in the Union) Weld can’t find a party he likes. so far, I’m not impressed with the quality of those pretending to want the nomination, and they all would fall before whomever the democrats put up, AND i think RSM and MDDad nailed their reasoning.

Joe Walsh, the brain-fried pothead guitarist from the Eagles would have a better chance than Joe Walsh, a nobody-ever-heard-of-him congressman from Illinois.

Illinois like California says it all...., just maybe coming from such a corrupt, crime ridden socialistic state he thinks he could squeak out a victory at home. Sorry for offending any good samaritans throughout the state of Illinois and California with my generalization.

Weld can’t find a party he likes.
Ironically, the feeling is mutual, there isn't a party out there that likes Weld. One of the best interviews I have seen in years was back in 2016 when Fox News host Kennedy shredded Weld for advocating non-libertarian policies while running on the Libertarian ticket. She did a wonderful job of exposing him for the tool that he is. Plus he is from Massachusetts. Yechh!
