My wife is a part time missionary to Haiti. She has been flying back and forth a few times a year to help an organization down there but has frequently been unable to go when airlines stop all flights because of the violent demonstrations handing.
The media blames Haiti’s newly elected President, claiming he is corrupt, that arbitrarily keeps fuel prices high, and pockets relief money. My wife is in communication with people who live there and has had enough of the media bias over what is happening. She wrote the following:

I’m am posting this rebuttal to The NY Times post about Haiti. The times does not know the truth but this is from a missionary with more than 40 years of living in Haiti. It is a long read but I encourage you to read it for more factual information.

‘There is no hope,’ Crisis pushes Haiti to brink of Collapse
21 October 2019
My email response to the NYT's Kirk Semple and his article blaming President Jovenel for the terrorists acts that have blocked 11 million Haitians from schools, hospitals, work, church and markets.
Semple’s misinformation, incomplete information and omission of information makes his report false propaganda or as we now commonly call it Fake News. You really have to ask yourself this question that Semple has failed to ask or answer.
Why would poor people block themselves from schools, work, hospitals, churches and markets? Why would they attack fuel delivery trucks and sabotage roads and bridges w oil slicks that kill?
The answer is the that the mas pep, the population is NOT doing these things, PAID GANGS OF ARMED TERRORISTS ARE.
NYT WROTE:
A struggle between President Jovenel Moise and a surging opposition movement demanding his ouster has led to violent demonstrations and barricaded streets across the country, rendering roads impassable and creating a sprawling emergency
TRUTH NYT OMITTED OR DOES NOT KNOW:
The Opposition is funded by oligarchs who not only bribed Parliamentarians to ransack Parliament to avoid a vote in favor of 150 million Taiwan loan to build Haiti's first hydroelectric power plant in 100 years, but they own their own militia of young men to whom they supply weapons, motos and cash.
There is NOT a surging Opposition Movement; there is a well-funded, well organized war on democracy by monopolists who refuse to lose MILLIONS in government contracts awarded them by the previous Preval and Privert admins who are of the violent, narco party Lavalas.
Currently, President Jovenel who was THRICE elected b/c Lavalas party refused to accept election results, has publicly denounced the oligarchs Dimitri Vorbe, Reginald Boulos and Parliamentarians Youri Latortue, Rene Garcia, Nenel Cassy, & Senator Beauplan who is responsible for road oil slicks that killed 40 people.
NYT WROTE:
Weeks of unrest around Haiti, coupled with rampant corruption and economic malaise, have led to soaring prices, a disintegration of public services and a galloping sense of insecurity and lawlessness.
TRUTH:
Yes, Haitians are the victims of rampant corruption but Jovenel NEVER HANDLED Petrocaribe money; that whole charge was disproven and was the Trojan Horse used by oligarchs to hide their 15 month attempt at fooling the International Community aka Core Group into believing the protests were a popular uprising; when in fact, there has never been a popular uprising. The terrorism now oppressing Haitian life is the work of 76 paid gangs employed by oligarchs, and the US and IC know it.
MORE TRUTH NYT OMITTED OR DOES NOT KNOW:
Jovenel has done more to develop Haiti than any president before him or all of the previous ones combined. He brought solar power water pumps and solar powered energy to several villages; he has built more roads than any Haitian president; and now he is threatening the oligarchs that lock 11 million citizens in poverty and ignorance with their lucrative government contracts that pay huge kickbacks to politicians and deliver NO services to citizens.
In fact, President Jovenel has REFUSED the kickbacks from the energy sector oligarchs; this is why they hate him so and want rid of him. President Jovenel will not sell Haitians down the river like so many before him.
MORE TRUTH NYT OMITTED OR DOES NOT KNOW:
Jovenel is FIGHTING the rampant corruption of Parliament and the Oligarchs and they have caused the economic malaise, including the devaluation of the gourde which was orchestrated by the businessmen of Groupe de Bourdon and includes the owner of Le Nouvelliste and the owner of Unibank.
Insecurity and lawlessness were unchallenged for three years until July 2019 by the previous Director General of the Haitian National Police Michel Ange Gedeon who was installed by the Lavalas President Preval; Gedeon was and is part of the Opposition attempted coup d’etat. Under his complicity gangs ran unchecked and terrorized the country. When Gedeon’s mandate expired, Jovenel installed Normil Rameau who is defending the country the best he can w 8500 PNH, but they r outnumbered and out gunned by 76 gangs that r armed w heavy weapons and motos.
NYT WROTE:
Gas shortages are worsening by the day. Hospitals have cut services or closed entirely. Public transportation has ground to a halt. Businesses have shuttered. Most schools have been closed since early September, leaving millions of children idle. Widespread layoffs have compounded chronic poverty and hunger. Uncertainty hangs over everything.
MORE TRUTH NYT OMITTED OR DOES NOT KNOW:
Gas shortages are caused by Oligarchs who ordered the terrorists gangs to BLOCK and ATTACK fuel trucks attempting to deliver fuel to stations in and around PaP and to outlying cities of Cap Haitian, Les Cayes and Jeremie.
Cap has not had sufficient fuel in over a month b/c thugs sabotaged a bridge in Cabaret. In addition, the armed gangs have employed guerrilla warfare tactics on Route Nationale 1 and 3 to the North, and Route Nationale 2 to the South. Meanwhile, Jovenel's request for troops has been refused b/c the US is reducing their payment to the UN.
NYT WROTE:
Mr. Moïse has been defiant, saying in public comments last week that it would be “irresponsible” for him to resign. He has named a commission of politicians to explore solutions to the crisis.
MORE TRUTH NYT OMITTED OR DOES NOT KNOW:
Every president or military junta before President Jovenel has quickly departed when confronted w manifestations simply b/c he had millions in stolen state funds and a nice country to go to; case in point, one week before Duvalier was deposed he said, "I'm not going; I'm as strong as a monkey's tail." One week later he was on a DC 3 w 70 million, all his artwork, his servants and his family. Same for General Cedras, Namphy and President Avril, they all easily absconded w millions.
Jovenel is DEFENDING Haiti from drug traffickers, weapons dealers and greedy oligarchs; he doesn't have millions to leave w b/c he has poured money into development projects like the Dam that directly threatens the energy sectors monopolies which is WHY Oligarchs have ordered gangs to put Haiti in a state of siege. And to the President’s credit, he has repeatedly offered to dialogue and negotiate w enemies of the state and they have repeatedly refused b/c they will only accept his departure.
NYT WROTE:
The crisis is particularly stark in Les Cayes, the most populous city in southern Haiti, which has effectively been cut off from the capital by barricades on the main road.
MORE TRUTH NYT OMITTED OR DOES NOT KNOW:
Senator Jean Marie Solomon is a wicked, anti Jovenel opponent who has paid gangs and made sure that his constituents in Les Cayes suffer immensely b/c God forbid, Jovenel should look good to Les Cayes.
The truth is before Cat 4 Hurricane Matthew, the Lavalas Privert government did not have the HUMAN decency to warn the entire Southern peninsula that a deadly Cat 4 was going to make a direct hit and over 1000 Haitians perished; the first 7 were fishermen at sea off the shore of Les Cayes.
When Jovenel was inaugurated five months later, he immediately began rebuilding and reforesting the Southern peninsula that was devastated by Hurricane Matthew while the Lavalas Privert interim government did not even value the population enough to warn them.
NYT WROTE:
“He said everything would change,” she recalled. “We would have food on our plates, we would have electricity 24/7, we would have jobs for our children and salaries would increase.”
MORE TRUTH NYT OMITTED OR DOES NOT KNOW:
President Jovenel had no idea what he was up against when he determined to provide electricity and water to his people held captive by oligarch slave masters who are multi-millionaires while their own countrymen cannot go to school, work, hospitals, churches or markets. This President is in a war for the very life of Haiti; he is the only one honest and brave enough to dare to stand against the mafia of bourgeoisie that have kept the county in chains of ignorance and poverty for centuries.
Jovenel was a successful banana farmer with export contracts to Europe and the US when he b/c a candidate for President; his vision for Haiti it to bring this fertile soiled country to compete on the international produce market w Chile, Peru and Honduras for the US market just 24 hours away by boat; but the bourgeoisie would lose their chief source of wealth, government contracts and Jovenel knows that that CORRUPTION MUST END to realize his dream to develop Haiti.
