I believe the Government has no business telling me what I can and cannot eat or drink. I imagine you're bright enough to make those decisions as well.

NOT ONLY can the nanny state tell us what we should or should not consume, they should be telling us whether or not we can use plastic forks and straws to consume it with, that we can kill our children if we want to, and that we must accept moral relativism and especially homosexuality as normal behavior. personally, I can’t wait for them to turn to religion so we’ll know what can and cannot be taught in church, or to education so they can rewrite history and math (etc) to where the snowflakes won’t be triggered by having to, you know, learn stuff that will make them more competitive in the world.

Looks like MDDad was right about the common sense.

I'm a pretty bright guy, but I wouldn't know which sugary drinks contain the most sugar, nor would I know corn meal from sawdust so I'm glad for at least SOME government oversight into what can and cannot be sold as food in this country.

At least you're making progress VP by admitting to the phrase of SOME government oversight. There might be hope for you yet!

Yes, it's called a "sin tax" and we use it on many products like cigarettes and alcohol...are those "stupid" as well or just the sugar tax? BTW, the tax on sugary drinks is not there so the poor can no longer afford to buy them so your question to Bloomberg makes little sense. Given the epidemic of obesity in this country how would you suggest the government discourage the purchase of sugary drinks and other foods that make us obese? There is a huge difference between discourage and force. I have no problem with discourage but forcing either by raising price or other means means is just plain wrong. I think I am more than capable of deciding, what is best for me and my family, without the stupid government's intervention.

I think I am more than capable of deciding, what is best for me and my family, without the stupid government's intervention. One of the first few gov't PSA's I recall was the frying pan coming the egg showing "your mind on drugs". Imagine if they went back to spending more even more resources on educating the younger aged public, as they are with vaping. What if instead of telling people what is or isn't good for them, the gov't focused on how to think critically instead, so that people could be equipped to make better decisions for their own lives?

I agree.
I don't agree that raising the price is "forcing" rather than "discouraging".
We force minors to stay away from cigarettes and alcohol...I assume you're ok with that. We discourage others to stay away by taxing the shit out of those products...but you're not ok with that?
In my opinion, such taxes are a legitimate government concern considering the costs of these items that are borne by government.

Michael Bloomberg is so concerned with the poor he avoids actual contact with them like the plague...

He is so not the topic of the thread...you do want to talk about the topic, no?
No, you just want to insult those you disagree with. Pathetic.
