While we’ve basically been basking in our ignorance, President Trump has just gotten his 49th Appeals Court judge confirmed by the Senate. i knew this process has been ongoing, but I haven’t been paying a lot of attention. Patrick Bumatay is interesting for two reasons: First, he is openly gay AND a minority so naturally the progressives hate him because he doesn’t play like they insist gays or minorities play and also because this should lay to rest that Trump is “homophobic” or hates minorities. Second, Bumatay appointment is interesting because Trump appointed him to your 9th District which has been notoriously liberal and noted for activist judges. Also of interest, Trump has now appointed 10 appellate judges to the 9th Circuit (which has 29 judges). the Senate is poised to approve #11, Lawrence Van Dyke, later this week. 16 of those currently serving were appointed by Clinton or Obama... 3 appointed by GHW Bush. Interesting how he is being portrayed as being hostile to diversity by the CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. Among the objections... Hostility to Diversity Programs and Implicit Bias Training: Mr. Bumatay has expressed contempt for university diversity programs. As a college student, he wrote an op-ed in which he stated: “The loss of a Yale identity began with the institution’s obsession with diversity…. To Yale, I became Patrick Bumatay, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander/South Asian. Yes, I became a checked-off box. To Yale, I was not an individual but another representative of my ethnic group. These actions destroy the Yale identity and hurt everyone involved…. How can minorities at Yale compete on an equal level with other Yalensians when they are from the beginning treated as inferior to everyone else?”[6] He also wrote: “In order to further push minority students to the margins of campus, Yale actually gives minority groups separate Yale-owned houses to preserve their ethnic identities…. Now instead of going to Mory’s for a cup or to Naples for a pizza, minority Yalensians go to the Asian-American House for green tea or to the Af-Am House to discuss why it is okay to have a ‘black table’ in Commons.”[7] These types of comments reflect a strong hostility to common-sense efforts by universities to value and support students of color, and they demonstrate an ignorance of history and discrimination in our society. civilrights.org/resource/oppose-the-confirmation-of-patrick-bumatay-to-the-u-s-court-of-appeals-for-the-ninth-circuit/

So... the criticism is, “he wants to be judged on his own merits and not as part of a group?”
Yes, I can see where that would threaten certain... groups who believe he should identify with them.

I'd imagine there would be an uptick in the unemployment rate if we abandoned cultural identity politics, and just considered us all Americans.
Further imagine if we abandoned political parties, and just became Independent Americans.
It's easy if you try.
And no, I'm not John Lennon reincarnate. I think I might be a closet idealist socialist, but I'm not the only one 😉

I’ve said for years, “socialism is a terrific structure...on paper.” It has always fallen apart as soon as you have to involve human beings. Inevitably, the concept doesn’t hold up when human beings are involved because someone always needs to be the one (and one s) in charge. We human beans being the self-interested, prideful examples we are.

As I've posted several times, simply removing the (D) or (R) after every candidate name on an election ballot would be a good start to force unthinking Americans to start thinking.

I would sincerely like to know how many Americans vote for candidates (at all levels) they know little or nothing about strictly because of the D or R after their name. My gut tells me it's well over 50%.

FYI,
Lawrence VanDyke, tapped for the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, cleared the Senate by 51 - 44, making him the 50th judicial nominee appointed to a federal circuit court since the president took office in January of 2017...#11 appointed by a Republican on the 9th Circuit.
EDIT: Trump has now appointed 50 Circuit Court Judges in almost 3 years in office... by comparison, Obama appointed 57 in his eight years as president.
