Interestingly, of China's almost 81,000 cases, almost 66,000 have recovered. The country now with the most active cases of the disease is Italy, with almost 18,000. Surprisingly, Italy also has the highest mortality rate at this point, at 6.8%.

Some pretty scary stuff around the world Wait a minute - "Visible from space"? That picture is like from 10,000 feet up, lower than airliners fly. I don't believe Airliners technically fly in space. FAKE NEWS!!

Surprisingly, Italy also has the highest mortality rate at this point, at 6.8%. Tied to that is the average age of the Italians who died from it, 80 years old. The virus spread among all of the older gumba's, hence the higher mortality rate. I believe the mortality rate among people under the age of 9 is exactly zero.

FAKE NEWS!! The picture may well have been taken from space, but it’s blown up exponentially. The 36 inch wide foot path that has been worn on the hillside where I used to run is also visible from space if you blow up the Google satellite view enough. Your license plate is visible from space if the picture is taken at the right angle. So technically the headline is correct, but it’s typical media bullshit in the sense that it’s highly misleading.............Luca

Tom Hanks and his wife were in Australia recently when they both started feeling fatigued and had the sniffles and a slight fever. They got tested, and it turns out were positive for the corona virus. Since this story would seem to contradict the MSM story line that this is a cold-blooded killer, it was barely reported.

At the risk of sounding conspiratorial, I believe there is much more involved in the covering of this story and the public's reaction to it. Here are a couple of things that I would really like to know:
1) Was the intense press coverage a co-ordinated effort? 2) Do those who despise Trump look at this as an opportunity to win the 2020 election? 3) Was the initial run on consumer products, specifically toilet paper, a co-ordinated effort done by a group with a political purpose? 4) Are government agencies & unions jumping on the bandwagon of closing down for weeks in order to set a precedent in future years to be able to do the same thing? 5) Are private companies closing down gatherings in order to prevent lawsuits & not so much to protect customers? 6) Are attorneys recommending shutdowns as a way to set a precedent for future liability claims (i.e., you go to a baseball game, catch the flu and miss a few days of work, so you sue)?

What a load of horsehockey. The story about Hanks and his wife was widely reported and the MSM is not presenting COVID-19 as a "cold-blooded killer".

The rest of it is just an irrelevant media grasping at the story of the day. 2) definitely... two democrat-controlled jurisdictions, Champaign, IL and New Orleans, LA, with more to follow, I’m sure, have given their mayors authority to ban firearm sales, gasoline sales, and alcohol sales, and seize private property as measures to control the spread of the virus. Biden and Sanders have already incorporated “its Trumps fault” into their campaigns, and Pelosi is acting like she planned the whole thing once impeachment failed. 3) maybe that crap took place because people are lemmings and fools, just following the butt ahead of them into the sea. 4) local governments, yes... I haven’t seen anything from state or national government. 5) I’m convinced there is part of that, part a desire to appear concerned by the public, and a minor part, a concern for employees and customers. 6) so far, I’ve seen no evidence of this.

What's the old adage, "Never Let a Good Crisis Go to Waste"...? @rsm, your list of questions are ones many people are asking, and there are many answers to them coming from many POV's.... I look at it this way, this is no doubt "real" and concerning in many ways. However, that being obvious, the reaction by what appears to be the majority of people, much of the press and many of our politicians is simply hysteria. ˇhis hysteria disappoints me greatly, this country melting down over this is what has my concern, not the virus. If this truly is a "crisis" in which we or mankind could possibly not survive, coming together is what gives us the best chance to live and prosper again. Looking historically during times of War or threat, Americans for exampl "rationed", preserved precious resources, shared for the common good. What I have seen the past week with people taking, grabbing, consuming and leaving NOTHING for their fellow man, neighbor, American as far as supplies and food shows just what a "WE" country we have become. It is now all about, "ME". Yesterday I walked a few super markets, entire eggs shelves bare, went to the produce sections, bare, I simply wanted an onion. I truly hope come months end, when the rent or mortgage is due for most people that the landlords and banks take eggs & onions as payments. To most of my fellow man, it is you whom has made something bad, much worse.

Well put SK80. But it's really not surprising. We're a nation of irrational dunces, incapable of independent thought.

Well put SK80. But it's really not surprising. We're a nation of irrational dunces, incapable of independent thought. I would edit that statement to "We are a nation that is allowing irrational dunces, incapable of independent thought, to influence huge swaths of followers, affecting the lives of the remainder". I would put the dunce category at about 25% of the population, with another 15 or 20% or so in the easily swayable category. I believe a majority of people in the nation are rational, we just tend to be more quiet and keep to ourselves.

Who's worse...the dunce, or the people influenced by the dunce?
