After a night's sleep, a few takeaways from this independent...
So many good things to talk about, so why spike the ball at the feet of the Dems?
I...me...my - not enough "we" accomplished.
Had a very produced, theatrical feel to it.
Missed a huge opportunity to unite, and misses the bigger picture of United we stand - Divided we fall. We'll see what happens after 16+ consecutive years of infighting.
I liked the end of the speech, but Pelosi antics at the end is such a bad look on us...ALL of us. Those forces seeking to divide us have to be smiling. Whether Krushchev actually said it or not, I'm left with a very empty feeling
“We will take America without firing a shot. We do not have to invade the U.S. We will destroy you from within....”

I expect a lot of “we” from politicians who believe themselves entitled to use the royal “we”. I can rationalize the President using it, but even that is a stretch in my mind: We fought a Revolutionary War, in part, to separate ourselves from the royal entitlement.
That said, however, I would also have preferred to hear more “we” as the first person, plural in last night’s speech. Now, he DID pepper in several “my administration” or “this administration” but context showed most of those to be more arrogance than inclusiveness... but, then, what did we expect from him, and especially the him whom the democrats have harassed and cajoled for well into the third year, literally without any respite? Frankly, I expected him to turn and look directly at Nancy with some of that, so I have to give credit where due that he did not.
I’m not sure about the protocol surrounding the Medal of Freedom, but having Melania present it was curious. On the other hand, he couldn’t very well have Rush walk all the way down to the daise, so... it just raised my eyebrows is all.
Now, to the petulant children in white: Did you notice they tried to disrupt the President when he started talking about healthcare? He had to talk over their shouting and arm waving for several seconds until, I assume, Pelosi waved them off. A single congressman, Joe Wilson, shouted “you lie” at Obama during his speech and the House voted to disapprove of his actions. While a vote of disapproval (supported by 7 Republicans, by the way) is pretty mild, do you believe for a moment that childish “screaming at the sky” will receive even a notice from that same Speaker of the House?
The Speaker of the house who rolled her eyes twice, continually looked everywhere except at who was speaking, visibly sighed several times, adjusted her papers frequently, and generally exhibited behavior more suitable to a Junior High School speech class than to a State of the Union address. Then, to tear up the speech (which I’m sure she will excuse somehow) shows her to be exactly, yes I’ll say it, exactly the bitch everyone believes her to be.
All in all, there were more theatrics than substance to the SOTU, but like watching a train wreck in slow motion, I just could not turn away.

Dave - if you look at last night through the lens of this country as a whole, the picture is not a healthy one.
It's just plain disrespectful all the way around, and it's inexcusable.

Hatred and resentment will destroy a person--which is exactly what is happening to Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and the Democrats in Congress.

We do not have to invade the U.S. We will destroy you from within....” From what I have read about Trump (which is a lot), he genuinely believed that after the bitterness of the 2016 election the country and the political leadership--as it always has--would come back together to try and work for the betterment of the nation. And look at what the Democrat-led Resistance has done to he and his supporters for the past three-plus years. It's utterly unprecedented and destructive of the common good. As long as the Left refuses to acknowledge the legitimacy of elections that they lose this divisiveness will continue to play itself out until one side or the other suffers a massive electoral defeat and finally has a Come to Jesus moment.

Hatred and resentment will destroy a person--which is exactly what is happening to Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and the Democrats in Congress. It will destroy a whole people - a nation, if it isn't stopped. The blame game will continue to be played by certain people to keep it inflamed, .. which is pointless Being mad about losing an election is childish, yet it goes on & on and on.... I think the following is correct Trump will be re-elected in a landslide, with black, Hispanic, gay, and former Democrats in support. He actually is making America great again. And for that, the Democrats sat stone-faced, furious, throughout the speech.
They made one thing manifestly clear: They are anti-American, anti-self-reliance, pro-crime, pro-illegal immigration, pro-sanctuary cites for illegal criminals, anti-Second Amendment and anti-American people.
When the president's speech was over, Pelosi furiously ripped up her copy of it on camera. Is there a better, more telling act of her anger and disrespect for the office of the presidency? She is a harridan, a blight upon her city, her party and the country. The American Democrat party has become something it was never meant to be: it has morphed into a radically fascist party of autocrats.
As Pelosi so ungraciously ripped up her copy of the speech on camera, she proved, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the Democrat party is no longer pro-American, pro-freedom nor pro-democracy.
This SOTU speech was a transformative moment. Now we know that only one party represents the American people.
The Democrat party as currently constituted, should ship out to Venezuela where they would feel right at home.

Plus the buttons on her jacket looked like ugly nipples... That's what I thought too, until I noticed they were about a foot too high.

So Donald Trump acts like a pouting five-year-old and refuses to shake Nancy Pelosi's hand. Then Nancy tears up the speech like a petulant five-year-old throwing a temper tantrum, but after she makes sure everyone can see her doing it. And these are the two leaders of our two major political parties. God help the republic.
Someone also complained that Nancy sat there the whole time with a sour look on her face. That's no surprise. Whatever look she had on her face when the makeup people caked on all that spackle is what she's going to have until they jack-hammer it off. I've seen corpses in coffins that looked more natural than her.

Democrats appropriately dressed, since their party has a long history with "protesters" in white robes.

I'm not even sure that Trump deliberately snubbed Pelosi on the handshake; he didn't shake Pence's hand either. And always remember--Trump didn't start this fight. He's just finally the first Republican to fight back and call out the Left's skullduggery. Apparently, spades don't like getting called spades.

A president with personal character and integrity would have risen above that moment and maintained the traditions of the republic. I guess it's too much to ask for that Trump will ever turn six.

Maybe trump forgot? Decorum doesn't seem to be his strong suit.

I have to believe they were not reflecting their KKK heritage, but honestly, all white? only things missing are hoods, which, now that I think about it, probably would have been preferable to those sour pusses.
