I'm not sure if silver tongued phonies are attracted to politics or if politics creates phonies out of otherwise fine people. Probably both.
That is the attraction for both Trump & Sanders as candidates, for all of their faults (& there are many for both), you have 2 guys who what you see is what you get. Neither could be called slick.

BTW, I do NOT believe Trump used the power of his office to go after Biden. I believe Biden was urged to run because the video became public with his boasting about using the Billion Dollars as leverage to get the Ukrainian Prosecutor fired that was investigating his son and Burisma.

I read recently, His chief of staff and son works for Burisma! Why else would he vote for conviction? Does anybody here remember how the media and the democrats, including turtle-necked wearing geeks treated him? Now he wants to be friends. I cant even believe what corrupt dolt he is. That was rhetorical. Yes I can!

Forget all the personal conflicts and other noise. Mollie Hemingway nails it here. The case for impeachment was never there to begin with, which is why only ONE out 250 GOP members of Congress voted for it. The fact that Romney was the only one o do so does not add merit to the case, it simply calls into question his judgment.

The problem with saying Romney voted his conscience is that it ignores the blatant fact that Romney had issues with Trump prior to this. When it comes to Trump, Romney is very biased. In fact, it would have been surprising had he voted to acquit him on both counts.
I would have had more respect for Romney had he said something along the lines of "I have never liked nor trusted Donald Trump. I view him as a corrupt person that can not change. Therefore, based on my views, I look at the evidence presented differently than my Republican colleagues and I truly believe the country would be a better place if we removed President Trump from office". But no, Romney has to act like he is the 2nd coming, that his conscience is pure & clean, forcing him to do the "difficult" thing. Trying to act like the evidence presented in any way was enough to get a guilty verdict is just plain dishonest & so is Romney.
As an aside, all of the dems voted that they needed additional witnesses in order to come to a conclusion. Then, without those witnesses, they voted guilty. Why did they want those witnesses then, to somehow prove Trump not guilty?

It's all so tiring and weak, as if Romney's actions validate ALL the Democrats in the House and Senate and the media takes it further that by Mitt making that one vote on one article the entire Republican House and Senate is corrupt, not voting their conscience and on the wrong side of the argument. Agin I will go back, the argument (impeachment), one in which there is NO crime.
P.S. Trump won, not only not guilty but his poll numbers as well as his re-election and RNC campaign war chest took in record $$$.

How could ANYONE not have had an issue with Trump that would have voted against him? Seems a lot like circular logic. You guys may very well be correct.

How could ANYONE not have had an issue with Trump that would have voted against him? Seems a lot like circular logic. You guys may very well be correct. I look at guys like Lindsay Graham, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio or Rand Paul. All 4 of those guys had gotten into it with Trump during the 2016 campaign, all had negative things to say about him. They could have held on to those grudges and voted to remove Trump from office or they could have set aside those issues and voted the case on its merits. None of those 4 guys, with the possible exception of Rubio, are "go along to get along" guys. All have stood apart from their colleagues and Trump for that matter to do what they believe was right in the past. Those 4 also are willing to go against party preferences if they believe they are right. The fact that the 4 of them all found the evidence to be insufficient to remove Trump from office, to me, speaks volumes about Romney. Also, think about exactly what Romney voted on. He voted to remove the current president from office for that phone call. Not censure him, not scold him, not tell him that was a bad thing to do. No, he voted to remove a duly elected president from office, because he doesn't like him. Wow!! Romney must think very highly of his ability to judge character.
