AOC reminds me of all the socialite girls I knew in junior high school who tried to use big words to give the impression that they were smarter than they really were. Like them, she is a pretty face with a vacuous mind, and I doubt she will ever be more than that.

The fact she actually defeated a 10 term incumbent, fairly high ranking democrat, and continues to gain popularity...despite being an admitted Socialist...concerns the heck out of me. She's the perfect candidate for the idealist millennial generation that's hell-bent on being outraged, and transforming the country into some gov't knows best, socialist version of itself that we fought to get away from some 250 years ago. Democrats 'like' it: The secret to Ocasio-Cortez's social media success

Ten years ago, we elected to the presidency a candidate uniquely lacking any of the necessary experience. Two years ago, we elected an utterly reprehensible human being to the same office. Six years from now, maybe we'll complete the embarrassing trifecta by electing a naively wide-eyed child. Politically savvy leaders like Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping must be drooling at the prospect...when they aren't pissing themselves with laughter.

Beating a 10 term incumbent, see the Republican version of this right here in OC District 48 with Rouda beating Rohrabacher. I know the demographics from the Bronx to HB-NB are different but the tactics used to unseat these guys are the same. HUGE amounts of party money and progressive money going after OLD WHITE MEN. It's now the winning formula for the left. Watch them go against Biden and Bernie now.

I'm not sure replacing old white men with naive Hispanic children is necessarily a recipe for success.

I would't call myself an optimist, but I think some of you guys are unnecessarily pessimistic.
The only reason Trump was elected was because he was considered by so many to be at least better than the alternative. Otherwise he'd still be tweeting from Trump Tower. As unqualified as Obama was, the country survived. Although it's not in better shape than when he took office, it does demonstrate that the government/nation is strong enough to withstand the occasional mediocrity in the White House.
Cortez is a flash in the pan. She gets attention because of her enthusiasm and energy, but once the majority seriously consider her ideas she is going to get passed over. Recent US history is filled with people like this from Ross Perrot to Howard Dean to Bernie Sanders, etc
But she is funny to listen to while it lasts.......................Luca

Yes listened to a lot of news last night and I concluded after every segment...., BLAME the VOTER!

Would tend to believe that any naive child would be a recipe.... we have Pelosi and Schumer to prove that!

But I haven't seen any semblance of reason, nor acceptance of the slightest bit of criticism of a democratic candidate. If AOC were able to somehow be eligible to run against Trump in 2 years, those guys would all be voting for her. Maybe I need to get acquainted with some "reasonable-thinking democratic" sites so as to be less jaded. I have a feeling that term may in fact be an oxymoron.

"...the government/nation is strong enough to withstand the occasional mediocrity in the White House."
I agree. If nothing else, the last two years have proven that the wheels and gears of government have at the same time enough momentum and inertia to keep going in roughly the same direction regardless of what kind of loon is in the White House.
"Cortez is a flash in the pan. She gets attention because of her enthusiasm and energy..."
...and laughable silliness when she tries to sound serious. If anti-gravitas exists, she's loaded with it.

She will likely be a flash in the pan and may even get flattened by her own party. Her ideas are nothing new and are trying to come of as something "revolutionary". Her way of thinking stands in front of everything that has made America the leader in the world. I know some do not like that notion and will vote to diminish us on the idea we should all (globally) be equal. My only worry is that when looking back at Obama this is what he tried to achieve. He just hid it from the people a bit better.

Maybe this is part of the problem--and the reason why Trump was elected: to disrupt the UniParty inertia of Dem/GOP elected mandarins who have ignored the voters for decades, while looking out very nicely for themselves. Now that Trump has proposed bringing home the troops from Syria and Afghanistan, the prospect of ending perpetual war has finally unified both parties in opposition. I say--along with Senator Rand Paul--bring our boys home. Let Afghanistan and Syria take care of their own nations.

It is simply bizarre to watch the Democrats... all they ever cared about going back to the 60's was "NO MORE WARS"! After decades of wars Trump say "Stop the Endless Wars" and all the Democrats choose to obstruct him! This goes for about everything with them... they were for it before they were against it... remember that one! That damn wall was something they all called for and voted for a few years ago now its an evil idea.... WTF?
