That's why McConnell wants to vote on it...to make the Democrats go on record agreeing with the damn thing.

The hi speed trains in lieu of air travel might be a tough sell given CA finally scrapping that boondoggle.
BUTT...I think that strapping a catalytic converter to the backs of cows still has legs.

Well, in other news AOC is doing a victory lap for successfully keeping Amazon from building their new HC in NYC. I understand the $3B in tax incentives, but has anyone done the math on what would have been received from them going there? Piling on is the easy thing to do here, but what the heck am I missing?

this is simply the socialists (anti corporates) and the unions (Amazon is anti-union) killing jobs and the economy. there will be such a HUGE contrast of fiscal and economic vision for America in the 2020 election. If the economy, jobs, Wall Street markets hold the next 18 months DJT should be a shoe-in.

Amazon is going to practice their "worker exploitation" somewhere. It could have been in New York, with the rise in employment, family incomes, and the tax base that would have resulted. Instead it will just be somewhere else. This is not only elitist NYMBYism at its worst, but it's also cutting off your nose to spite your face.

It is said that the agreement New York City and Amazon worked out would have been ..."a deal that would have seen 25,000 jobs, paying approximately $150,000 per year, enter Long Island City"
In Cortez's "green new deal" one of the main goals was to create “millions of good, high-wage jobs”. So, an opportunity to have 25,000 of them drop right in New York's lap appears out of nowhere and she pisses it away...... and congratulates herself for it. What a monumental ditz. After you finish laughing, you want to ask her "Who writes your material?".........................Luca

The left on the other board (that shall remain nameless), always wondered aloud how anybody could have voted for Trump. The absolutely preposterous nonsense now coming out of the Democratic alternative (progressives), should answer those questions fully.

Agree with those numbers MDDad or your questioning them. I know Amazon well, they have a pay structure that is topped at 160K a year. The rest is in bonus + stock. Jeff Bezos base salary is 160K. Amazon's stock performs so well that one could contrive a salary of $150K a year with this formula. But it should be written more like salary $85K and likely to be 150K should the stock shares granted increase another 30%! Base salary and TOTAL compensation are two different things when discussing salary.

Just sifted through some takes across the web on AOC and her job killing agenda. If there isn't an example of political stupidity and suicide then there will never truly be one. The Democrats should sink her ASAP. She is simply uneducated even though she does have a degree. She sold a false set of goods to a constituency that has no understanding of economics but emotion. Claiming that 3 BILLION in subsidies to AMAZON was EVIL and could be better spent on teachers and subways. Well Ms. Dummy you actually DO NOT HAVE the 3 BILLION because Amazon isn't coming! So how are you going follow through now with NO money! Is this woman for real?
AOC is wrong on many items.
1) The 3 billion is not money in hand. It was a reduction of Taxes by Amazon for the future.
2) 25,000 jobs can't be replaced. This wasn't warehouse jobs making $15.00 an hour. This was a Headquarters where the average pay would be closer to $100,000 per year.
3) If 25,000 new employee's paid the state income tax in NY (3% to 3.8%, average 3.4% for sake of conversation) that's $85 million in lost income taxes per year. That doesn't include property tax, sales tax or any other local taxes.
4) Those jobs are not subsidized as she was quoted. The investment is subsidized and would start paying full taxes after a certain time frame.
5) The city doesn't have 3 billion sitting in an account to give away. This isn't something they can pull out of a savings account and now say let's fix the subway system or give teachers a pay raise.
6) What people is she talking about to be put to work now that Amazon isn't going to get the tax break? Does she have a replacement for Amazon for the citizens to miraculously go to work at?
I was unsure if NYC was the right place for Amazon to go too in the first place. Not sure any business wanting to move will go there. This gives companies something to stop and think about if this is the environment the politicians are creating towards private industry. AOC still believes in the myth government can do better. Sheesh all mighty.

AOC's degree is in economics and international relations. In that case, I sure hope she's a foreign policy genius, because she's a disaster as an economist.
