Sans face mask, 15 yard penalty, distant school contact, repeat the down...

Too bad the fact those infected had such mild symptoms, if any, that it was inconsequential.
Mind you, this with all the masks and distancing.

Love the optimism, but I just don't see this happening under the current political and social environment of mass hysteria. Let's get ready for Fall 2021.

I'm not so sure this Spring season is lost. Newsome is feeling the heat now, and everyone is telling him that he needs to back off and open the schools. (Among other things).

They'd have to ditch the tier system altogether.
Can you imagine the shit storm if there were 2 different arbitrary systems dictating behavior?
Teachers' unions are already digging their heals in on this.

This is the kind of garbage that drives me out of my mind. For example, just from this one sentence:
(1) What is "case rate"? Is it the number of new positive test results? The number of people who become ill? The number of people admitted to hospitals? The number of people added to ICU's? There never seems to be any definition of the terms that now govern our lives.
(2) If "case rate" is the number of new cases, as of this morning Orange County's "7-day ave. case rate" is 2,696 per day. How in the world will that number ever decrease to 28? It will take six to 18 months to get there, if we ever do.
(3) Is the number 28 based on scientific study, or is it another arbirtrary number pulled from thin air? What makes us safe if the case rate is 27, but puts us at deadly risk requiring a lockdown if the number is 29? And what has happened to make it suddenly safe for the case rate to be four times higher than it was when it was 7?
(4) Every word uttered by Gavin Newsom is said for effect and to further his political image. If someone threatened to punch him in the face or mess up his hair, that 28 number could easily jump to 56, or 280, or 2,800 because it has no basis in science. This guy is the real disease that is killing and ruining the lives of Californians more than the virus ever could.

I believe the "Case Rate" is the number of average daily "new cases" (i.e., positive tests) per 100,000 people. The threshold for Orange County (population 3.2M) for the 28 Case Rate figure would be no more than a 7-day average of 900 new "cases" per day. occovid19.ochealthinfo.com/coronavirus-in-oc

But "positive tests" is an artificially inflated number. As I posted some days ago, a COVID patient in a hospital may test positive for 10 to 14 days before he's released, and none of those positive test results reflect new cases.

I'm not so sure this Spring season is lost. Newsome is feeling the heat now, and everyone is telling him that he needs to back off and open the schools. (Among other things). What's infuriating about this revised Case Rate of 28 for school openings is that the original threshold set back last summer was Case Rate of 7, which only a few counties (like Orange) could ever achieve. Los Angeles was always just slightly above that average. If a case rate of 28 is okay in January--when the COVID situation seems to be exponentially worse than in the Fall-- then why was 28 not acceptable in August? Under the 28 threshold, virtually every county in California could have opened schools on time, as was always safe. Newsom's goalpost shifting is an unacknowledged concession that the policy he established back in July for school re-openings was a mistake. The moron prevented almost all schools from opening at the beginning of the school year, and is now trying to cover his rear when we're already half way through--and all Fall sports were squelched unnecessarily.

If a case rate of 28 is okay in January--when the COVID situation seems to be exponentially worse than in the Fall-- then why was 28 not acceptable in August? The answer to that question is simple. Newsom was not under as much political heat in August as he is now. That's why he's giving in. He has no political scruples or scientific backing for his decisions. Instead it's all about furthering his brand.

The whole approach to dealing with this virus is flawed, and it makes sense why the rules in dealing with it are equally.
We've bought into the notion that people without symptoms are spreading this.
Never before did we blink when we, and everyone around us had the flu, were down for a week, hospitalized, or ultimately died.
Now, we're congregating with people who ARE showing symptoms for the purpose of finding out if we're sick, and believing a cloth mask that actually makes aerosols easier to spread, is going to stop a virus.
We're living the movie Idiocracy.

We're living the movie Idiocracy. It says a lot about how ignorant and gullible the American people have become. When you can dumb down and pussify an entire nation, who have them in the palm of your hand.

Exactly.
Doubt you've seen that movie, but the premise is how dumbed down the earth became. Have a few drinks before you watch it.
Might be the dumbest movie of all time, but you'll see some similarities with what's really happening today.
