The Riots....Why?

Oh man another vote for "POST of the YEAR"! Guess #4 for may have sealed the deal!

I never EVER watch television news, but Saturday night I had no other option, as the riots and looting were covered on almost every channel. I was struck by the fact that 99% of the protesters, rioters and looters were high school and college age. These were not protests, they were out-of-control raves or frat parties with free goodies for everyone willing to steal them. When interviewed, these kids had no understanding of racism or other any other issue they might have been "protesting". All they could offer was angry cliches, buzzwords and catchphrases that they've had drummed into their heads. I suspect if the authorities had taken down one or two of these looters at the knees, their commitment to "protesting racism" would have come to a screeching end.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned it previously, but I have read a few reports of police taking a knee when confronted by a mob. This is supposed to indicate some sort of theoretical brotherhood or peaceful intention to the mob, I assume.

I remember first hearing of this maneuver during the Iraqi war when some army patrol was confronted by a large group of villagers who were angered by something or other. There was this inexperienced lieutenant leading the patrol and he spontaneously told his squad to take a knee and point their weapons down at the ground to indicate a lack of violent intent and an apology of some sort, presumably

It worked, and it was pretty wise move by a novice officer.

I'm not so sure how well it's going to work in the current situation when you're dealing with people who are probably violence prone anyway and just looking for an excuse to act out. My advice would be to take a knee if you want but keep your weapon out and loaded.

I'm not yet quite comfortable with the idea of cops trying to appear submissive in the face of rioting.

By the way, I think I read somewhere that Newsome ordered the National Guard to unload their weapons while confronted with the mob. Has anyone else heard that? It sounds like a typical pusillanimous move one might expect. The reason you carry a weapon is to demonstrate a show of force so that you don't have to engage in hand-to-hand combat when you're out numbered 20-1.........................Luca

How is it that New Yorkers haven't run this guy out of town on rail yet? How dare he indict myself and the rest of the nation in his phony racism narrative. Speak for yourself, sir!

You have to admit he does provide some entertainment value.
