I imagine most of the residents of Laguna Beach prefer men's figure skating to ice hockey.

Honestly, not since Magic Johnson came off the bench to replace injured Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in game 6 of the 1980 playoffs.. 🙄 Not to be a dick, but I just have to correct that notion. Kind of an ADHD thing. Magic didn't come off the bench for that game, he was a starter for the entire season & playoffs. What did happen was Magic moved from his point guard spot to center to fill in for Kareem & even took the opening tip. Norm Nixon took over alot of the ball handling duties, but Magic still led quite a few fast breaks that game, often with Jamaal Wilkes doing the scoring. Understood. but I don’t care enough to... well, care. 🤷🏻♂️

You should care, if you are going to use it as an anecdote. There is nothing wrong with knowing the truth.

What a bunch of despicable hypocrits. Utter outrage over a resistant felon getting shot, but not a word of protest over the tens of thousands of people persecuted, imprisoned or killed in China for pure ethnic or racial reasons, because that would cost them and the league some money. I guess money talks and bullshit walks is as true as ever. The NBA can go to hell. That's a good, commonsense post. I've been thinking about it. I wonder if these guys ever stop to contemplate what they must look like to the sane world. You should always ask yourself when you take a public stand " What does this sound like to a rational thinker who doesn't share my same perspective on the issue?" If you do, sometimes you realize it's better to keep your mouth shut (for example, while arguing the justification of the atomic bomb with a 90-year-old resident of Hiroshima). Even when you're right, sometimes silence is the best response. So if these guys were to stop and think they'd realize that nobody sympathizes terribly with them given that virtually everyone of them is a multimillionaire at a young age, without a great deal of experience behind them to generate wisdom. They jump right into a political malström - taking the largely unpopular radical side – and ostentatiously announce they're boycotting the playoffs........... all the while pretending that no one is aware of their collective silence and tolerance of the exponentially greater harm being done to minorities in China, their great benefactor. As though you can be selectively virtuous and no one will notice. They take a pretentious stand and then, when realizing it's actually going to cost them money, reverse it within 24 hours. There is a word for this exercise in moral vanity: Bathos.....................................Luca

I would add that current "protesters" (and NBA players are just the latest excellent example) react prematurely and emotionally to issues they don't understand intellectually, and most often don't do much more than parrot the loudest voices they hear. When coupled with an embarrassing lack of understanding of world history, it's a sad, sad commentary on many of today's opinion-makers. AOC may be the best example in American life today of this malady.

In a year that has included some of the most stupidly incomprehensible things I've ever heard, this one has to rank pretty near the top. A bunch of NBA basketball players and coaches, who as a group must rank among the most ignorant and ill-informed segments of our society, are going to tackle and solve the monumental issues of increasing voter access and reforming our police/criminal justice processes? Something that the brightest thinkers in our country have been unable to do? That is so mind-numbingly stupid that I can't begin to articulate the depths of its stupidity. It is so obviously nothing more than a quickly trumped up reason for restarting games and making money.

What do you think the average NBA players highest completed education level is? That's too vague. Do you mean the average number of years of school completed, or the actual educational level of the player, i.e. how much they actually learned from doing class work?
