I'm sure this will be an entirely unpopular position, but to make the arranging of beer-pong cups at a party in the shape of swastika national news, is yet another example of the insatiable thirst to be outraged. The underage drinking part takes a back seat to kids screwing around with the offensive nazism. How is this even LOCAL news. Good grief. I think I even read at least one kid got expelled over this.

I agree with you, Nick. This really is a load of melodramatic horseshit
A bunch of kids screwing around, drinking and setting up the empty cups in an offensive symbol is national news? Like there’s really some underlying significance to this? The third Reich rears it’s ugly head with plastic cups? It’s not a bunch of half drunk teenagers reveling in being politically incorrect at a private party by themselves? No, it’s a sad commentary on the state of American society, and these proto Nazis need to be ostracized and expelled from their schools lest they spread the seed of intolerance and, dare I say, racism.
I read in the paper that Newport Harbor high school called a meeting of their “crisis committee“ the following Sunday. Are these people serious?
What this actually represents is yet another opportunity for the interminably offended to showcase their moral vanity and righteous outrage.
Seig fornicating heil, bunch of spineless pretentious moralists........

Some of the kids are getting doxxed on Twitter. Considering this was in a private residence, are we moving even closer to 1984?

Wouldn't the best course of action be for those involved in the party to sit down with a Holocaust survivor for a couple of hours? No reason to give these kids a scarlet letter, just let them interact with someone who can relay the evil of the organization that they were ignorantly "promoting" (for lack of a better word).
And of course, the Registers Deepa Bharath is all over the story, making it front page fodder. This woman's sole purpose in life is to "expose" the racism of white people, she appears to believe it is a major issue in our society. I have even written to Ms. Bharath, challenging some of her assertions, but never received a response. Either she believes I am one of those white racists or she is a coward who can't defend her accusations. Maybe both.

Schools in NMUSD have brought in some Holocaust survivors to speak to the student bodies. They are doing the right course of action here. The sad part yet again is the media shows up at these forums continuing their narrative that racism is alive and well in white communities. Sick.

Now if it were a bunch of antifa kids playing beer pong and forming a hammer and a sickle, do you think we'd be reading it as national news anywhere? Isn't the real issue what the Nazi party stands for, along with what happens when a socialist government becomes too powerful? I've never understood how a socialist organization could be considered "far-right". This is yet another attempt to link racism to Trump, and the kids are the tools to prove it. National Socialist German Workers' Party

The National Socialist Workers Party ultimately wasn't very socialist. They initially put that in their name but didn't instill socialism in the strict sense of the word. IG Farben, Krupp and the rest of the major companies pretty much continued to function unimpeded once the Nazi's seized power. They changed their focus more to expansion and continental domination once they solidified their hold
I don't think the Nazis were a warning again socialism so much as against dictatorship and militarism.
It's funny, but if you look at the comments on this issue on TOB, you see the typical angst and anguish that characterizes a true bleeding heart. Let a few inebriated teenagers form a swastika from empty cups then pretty soon, by God, the Gestapo's banging on the door and you're on the next train to Dachau............Luca

I learned about this incident involving some NHHS students from my own students on Tuesday morning. My response: dumb move by some drunk teens, but nobody seriously believes these kids are neo-Nazis; and thank God it wasn't Servite students.

I agree that what these kids did was stupid, but it's the kind of thing drunk stupid kids do. The real crime here is the adult parents who allowed a bunch of high school kids to get hammered in their home and make fools of themselves, and there has been very little discussion or "outrage" over that.

I would like to thank the jack hole kids who thinks it's funny. Having now raising our 12 year old Granddaughter, we were thinking about pulling her out of a private school and sending her to Ensign Junior High, then to Harbor. Now my wife is upset and wants to change her mind. I paid for private schools for my own kids and now it appears to be continuing. Arg! Thanks again, jerks. Now only if I had MILLIONS, I would hire Rick Singer to get my Granddaughter in Yale as a Lacrosse player! LOL

Now only if I had MILLIONS, I would hire Rick Singer to get my Granddaughter in Yale as a Lacrosse player! LOL I had my kids in a private Christian school, and my step daughter graduated from there ONLY because her father chipped in some of the tuition (grudgingly, I might add). Once she graduated and we no longer had that “extra,” we could no longer afford the cost so we enrolled our other kids in public elementary school. they did quite well until my my youngest got to Junior High School and encountered the mean-girl syndrome amongst all the emerging pubescent babes-in-Training. She is not of the temperament to handle those attitudes without beating them I to submission, so we took her out and started home schooling her. The following year, my son (having concluded his Sophomore year in HS) decided he wanted to be homeschooled too, but not because he couldn’t handle his peers. So he is about to conclude HS at home this Summer, and my daughter is just finishing her sophomore year. Public Schools here are OK. Private Schools are expensive, but Home Schooling is huge in the Midwest.
