Bite me. You're just an arrogant prick who think he's the only one who ever studied history. You're convinced that everything you learned in school is the truth. I'm not that naive. Bite me? What's the matter boy, am I getting under your skin? Isn't that the only reason you're here? Very little of what I've said in historical discussions on this forum are things I learned in school. They are things that I had the initiative and interest to learn on my own, often from personal letters and original documents, not some revisionist history from the National Park Service like you. I don't pretend to be an expert when all I've done is google something. I think that makes you the arrogant prick. And at the risk of arousing you, you can kiss my ass.

What would it take to have a healthy, VIABLE relationship again? I think any marriage or relationship counselor would say there are at least two critical prerequisites to that happening. One is that both sides have to WANT it. I suspect more every day that that is no longer the case. The second is that both sides have to RESPECT the other, and we may be way past that as well. I also always believed hat something like a dangerous, global pandemic could provide that unifying force, but it has proven to provide just the opposite. Doesn't paint a very rosy picture, does it? Respect between the sides left the building a decade ago. The microcosm of TOB, and now here, was what got me thinking along those lines. I've yet to find anywhere where left and right can have a respectful, objective conversation that results in anything that resembles a compromise. Anyone that compromises is quickly branded a sellout. Dave, I think your analogy of a marriage is pretty close with an exception. Even in a failed relationship, I think the 2 sides maintain a modicum of civility. That's not the case here. I think we're in the "F-u / F-u" greeting mode when faced with the other side, with no pretense of civility. You and Vile are repeated more often than not throughout the country.

In support of what you're saying, Bick, reasoned conversations I have had with those with whom I disagree are refreshing and rare, although the ill repute in which I hold snowflake is also rare amongst those with whom I interact (snowflake being the only one I can bring to mind at present)...

Bite me? What's the matter boy, am I getting under your skin? Well missy, isn't that what you were going for with your ignorant comments? After all, it is what you do best. Yes I'm sure you learned more than anyone when you were on your personal search for knowledge. I'm sure you know more than the University of Virginia or the National Park Service, two of the sources I cited in my statements that refuted your silly claim...but no doubt you're right and they and I are wrong. The "bite me" was because I no longer care to go round and round with you over this minor point. I'll let you live with your delusion. Oh, and I wouldn't kiss your ass with Dave's lips. Carry on.

When have you shown the slightest interest in "compromise"? Compromise is a two-way street. Is there some issue or problem where you have suggested a compromise solution only to have it soundly rejected? You are correct that there is little to no civility here. Which is why you get little to none from me. It's another two-way street.

Yeah, I know what you believe but what you avoided saying is that many conservatives would codify your beliefs into law just like you accuse the left of wanting to do. You're no different. Yes, it should be codified that a confused, mentally ill man can't walk into a womens gym and dangle his (semi-erect) dick in front of little girls. It should be codified that nobody has the right to force someone else to perform labor against his will (we fought a war over that, as you like to say). And it should be codified that a woman can't unilaterally kill her unborn child because having it would be inconvenient. If American citizens were rational, sentient people, we would not have to make most of those laws: People with sense already know you don't kill the unborn living human beings, or allow a male into the women's locker room. It is only the hysterical, mindless drone snowflakes advocating that sh-- uhm, stuff.

A guy who's convinced he's Elvis Presley is nuts. A guy who's convinced he's a dog is nuts. But a guy who's convinced he's a woman is a woman? What kind of Looney Tunes thinking comes up with that stuff?

Yeah, so let's have a rational discussion with them about how we should be allowed to live our lives, or let them convince us how they're the ones who should be directing what we should be doing. BUT...if you think about it, don't guys who think they're woman actually NEED someone to guide them?

I had a little time this afternoon, so I looked at all 50 states and put them into either the Red or Blue category. Then I looked at the populations of those states, and the results are remarkably even:
There are 22 Democratic states with 165.9 million people. There are 26 Republican states with 147.0 million people. There are 2 very purple states (Georgia and Arizona) with 17.9 million people.
If you add the two purple states to the Republican column, you get 165.9 million people in the Democratic states and 164.9 million in the Republican states.
How much more equitably could this country possibly be divided with little impact to individual states' political leanings? Let's do it. Sure, about 160 million Americans would have to sell their homes, pack up and move to new states, but what the hell. No pain, no gain.

I certainly wouldn't look forward to having to move. With the D's in total control here, we'd probably get Barstow.

I’m game: I’ve wanted to get out’a here for awhile… just tell me where. Well, the Republican states are Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Take your pick. For me, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Utah are pretty appealing destinations.
