This contest has run through a number of threads, so it might be time to give it its own life, even if only to stop us from trashing other topics. Currently in the running (in no particular order): California, Illinois, New York Michigan And any others you want to nominate, but after this opening post, please provide evidence for your nomination. I believe Illinois is the current front runner for a number of reasons, amongst which are 1. The nearly impossible hoops we gave to jump through to recall anyone; 2. Our governors draconian COVID measures that he has repeatedly been caught ignoring; 3. HB3653-A bill that brings sweeping criminal justice and police reformsHB3653 was authored by the state House Black Caucus and was signed into law yesterday, by Governor Jabba the Hut. HB 3653: What's Included in the Bill Being Signed Into Law Monday

I think you might want to add Texas to your list after the winter storm debacle, and I think everything on the list you posted is a good thing...kudos to Illinois.

You might have made up that shortfall in the months since I read that.

This is the article I was recalling, it is from December but cites data from period ending in July... so, like I said, you might have caught us since then: ILLINOIS SEES WORST POPULATION DECLINE SINCE WORLD WAR II CA was third. the rest of the article has an interesting graphic, and a lot of good data.

That's an interesting map. If you dig down one more layer, you come up with what I'm sure is just a coincidence. States With The Largest Population Declines1. New York - Democratic governor 2. Illinois - Democratic governor 3. California - Democratic governor 4. Michigan - Democratic governor 5. Pennsylvania - Democratic governor States With The Largest Population Increases1. Texas - Republican governor 2. Florida - Republican governor 3. Arizona - Republican governor 4. North Carolina - Democratic governor, but Republican legislature 5. Georgia - Republican governor Hmm, kind of makes you think, doesn't it? Maybe the American people aren't as dumb as some would hope.

Yeah, Dave, what's your excuse? I'm sure you don't dine at Alinea every night.

When I worked Automobile claims for a large multi line insurer, I was offered a promotion and a primo assignment here, training claims management. I had been here several times and knew a lot of people here and, back in the 80’s and 90’s, it was a great bedroom community so I took the job. The conventional routine at that time was we’d take the corporate job, hang in for a couple years, then go back out to the field at some elevated position. Unfortunately that door seems to have closed once I got here, and I net and married a local girl who gave me two kids. So, simply put, leaving sort of faded out of reality... much as I’d like to.

Governments pull that kind of crap often and nearly anywhere. In Colorado we have a law that says we get to vote on any tax increase. The local govt. asked us to raise the mill levy rate. We voted yes for a certain amount of time (Two years, I think). After that it was to return to the lower rate. Well...that time came, and they would not lower it back to where it was. Their refusal to drop it amounted to a tax increase that we hadn't authorized. We fought it all the way to the Colorado Supreme Court, where the Democratic appointed jurists ruled, "Well, they voted for it once, so it's reasonable to assume that they would have voted for it again."
