Many of you know, I used the 1986 movie, Hoosiers in a corporate setting to teach Leadership to management people. Since seeing that movie, all the way through, over 300 times, I have become aware of a lot of movies that contain real wisdom. Movies like Family Man, Forrest Gump, Facing the Giants, and Remember the Titans. Some kind of sneak under the fence but have good messages, like My Cousin Vinny. The judge, Chamberlain Holler (Fred Gwynne), is a backwoods stickler for detail who has it in for the upstart New York lawyer, Vincent Gambini (Joe Pesci) and almost goes without notice, but looking more closely at him: - Rules are rules, and rules are meant to be followed ("I expect you to know this by the time you walk into my court")
- Ask the right questions ("Did you say 'two yutes'?" and "HOW is it a 'trick question'?")
- Always follow up ("Mr. Gambini, didn't I tell you to dress lawyerly when you come into this court?")
- Own your mistakes (after his instruction "let the record show, Counsel is holding up two fingers," He apologizes, and after the trial, meets Gambini out at the curb and congratulates him for the win.
What movies can you recall with similarly good messages from the characters, and what messages do you recall from it/them?

Two come to mind immediately: Saving Private Ryan. Sometimes, even during the worst of times, it makes sense to persevere and sacrifice beyond all reason to accomplish something simply because it's right. Schindler's List. Even in the worst of societies we can find incredibly good people. (And even in the best of societies we can find those who are utterly evil.)

I forgot one:
Weekend At Bernies. If you try hard enough, you can convince people that a dead guy is really alive and the life of the party. This movie could also be retitled "The Biden Presidency".

I disagree. Movies are not "supposed to be" any one thing, but rather whatever their makers intended. Then the free market of viewers decides whether or not it's a success or a flop.

Not all movies are made in Hollywood or by Hollywood clowns. Sure, some are to entertain ( usually the ones made by Hollywood clowns), but a lot are for edification, some for education… and on and on.

“All motion is relative. Perhaps it is you who has moved way - by standing still.”
