There is a lot of chatter out there about Team USA losing its luster and particularly about the PC infection of the games.
Honestly, I haven't watched a single event or game this time, but I've never been THAT big a fan. From the French beating our Basketball team, to the (was it) Norwegians beating our Soccer team after they all took a knee on the field (I actually enjoyed hearing those bulletins) to Simone Biles...
HAS Team USA lost a step? They haven't lost the Gold in Gymnastics since 2008 and, while a silver is nothing to sneeze at, it's not Gold (which the Russians have)... and as of yesterday, we trailed China in total medal count. It does seem to me we've settled for lackluster performances which has dropped us back in our pursuit of excellence.
Thoughts?

And Simone Biles? I don't profess to know the mind of an athlete. But should she even be there if "the stress of being the greatest gymnast in history" (her words) drops her from competing? Simone Biles drops out of Olympics team gymnastics final as Russian athletes upset USA
So she had a problem sticking the landing from her vault exercise... but then withdrew from the team competition (which lost them the gold medal that has been theirs since 2008) and now she has also withdrawn from the all-around competition. Again, I was never molested by a coach and I've never been an Olympic Athlete, but it seems all of this should have been addressed before taking her to Tokyo, shouldn't it? |

But Dave, letting other countries have their turn at winning the medal count, and delivering lackluster performances, is what EQUITY is all about. It's the logical extension of current leftist thought. You should be proud Americans are finally finding their rightful place in the world -- right in the lackluster middle with everyone else. |

Women's gymnastics v. pro football conversation about mental toughness? That seems about like comparing athletes to firemen, police and soldiers. You know, the people who actually ARE heroic.

I also saw a few seconds of Laurel Hubbard, the New Zealand transgender weightlifter, who was allowed to compete against women. Usually it seems like transgender dudes make some attempt to look like women, but his guy looked like a fat, flabby, balding man who couldn't clear his opening weight.
Maybe he thinks of himself as some kind of brave trailblazer, but I'm sure to many people he embarrassed himself, his sport and those who allowed him to compete. And he is an insult to the real women in that sport.
