Not talking about the world ending in 12 years.
Are we headed toward civil war or a break up of the union? I'm not optimistic we can pull it back together.
I don't think this is about Trump at all. He epitomizes very inarticulatly what I think a very large part of the country wants at its core. There are at least 3 of us on this and the OCC board that didn't vote for him because he wasn't qualified, but support the ideals he campaigned on... self- reliance, less gov't, stronger borders.
On the flip side, what used to be considered outlandish, socialism, has now become a widely accepted objective. Capitalism is now the enemy. Maybe it always has been that way.
I'm hopeful this thread can lay out the clear differences, and likely outcomes in the near term / longer term, without focusing necessarily on agreement / disagreement along with the corresponding ridicule.

No to both questions.
Much of what we read is just part of the news cycle frenzy. It’s dominated by what people are thinking and screaming on the left and the right coast. I do believe there are a greater number of people who don’t get involved in the frenzy because they’re busy and are basically OK with how things are going, at least not to the point that they would consider anything radical
In the final analysis, two things will prevent radical change: the Supreme Court and the Constitution. The Supreme Court as stands is going to go by what the constitution actually says, which is reassuring. To change the constitution you have to pass amendments and the Constitution states you have to get a super majority of states to go along, which also won’t happen.
Sound and fury, signifying nothing

Yes, this <gesturing widely> Is a mess.
No, <shaking head thoughtfully> there is not an end to the tunnel easily in sight. But I believe it is a tunnel and not a cave.
I really believe there are some politicians and peripheral wannabes like media types who will not stop tearing at us until a civil war breaks out. All this talk about socialism started because world shakers like George Soros needed a bad guy. He picked “the rich” and started the malleable brains of the first-time-away-from-home college kids because we don’t typically get competent at decision making until we get into our thirties.
Enter a rich man, Trump, who, they believed, would never beat America’s matriarch, heir apparent to the royal throne, except he did.
So those politicians and wannabes have to bring him down before he brings them down (might or might not be reality, but it is their perception). Their concern is and has been for a long time is retaining, or increasing if possible, their power. They are not particularly interested in collateral damage. Their histrionics are laughable.
