Credo brought up Howard Schultz In another thread and it occurs to me, I haven’t heard from or about him since January when it was speculated he was considering an Independent run in the 2020 Presidential election, which sent the democrat handlers into a frenzy thinking he would siphon votes from their candidate(s) and guarantee Trump the win. So I did a little (very little) digging and found him, not unexpectedly, on Wikipediait doesn’t say whether or not he will run, or, if he does, if it will be as an independent... but I found this recounting of some of his more outspoken political ideas pretty interesting, if not worth considering: Now, he also promoted gay marriage in Washington state, and he DID support Clinton in the last election, so there clearly are ideas I don’t favor and, of course, it is WAY too early to know at this point, but I think my pencil might tary momentarily over his name on the ballot. What are your thoughts?

Bwawaahahahaaa! I find Schultz an interesting guy maybe even a choice....., until I come to my senses and think SUPREME COURT. Any President remotely in bed with the Democratic Party will forever change the court for my lifetime and likely end our Constitutional government with Constitution tweaking ideologues. We can debate all the issues and mostly live with them or without them but the Court Supreme is what essentially matters to me. Trump has proven he will assure me and the Constitution in this fight.

I regret I had not thought of that until you mentioned it. You're right.

Schultz would definitely siphon some votes from the Democrat Party nominee, but some of his ideas, and common sense (not party line) approaches, make him a threat to take votes away from people who like Trumps policies, but dislike Trump personally.

I wondered about that too... i can definitely see a possibility.

I see what you're thinking but I have a different take on Schultz. Rather than appealing to both social liberals and fiscal conservatives, Schultz's social liberalism will alienate conservatives while his fiscal conservatism will alienate liberals. He'll get run over from both sides of the road.

That will be true if we are too far gone down the road to partisanship... which we might well be at this point, but while I don’t think I could vote for him based on some of his known positions, I think a lot of liberals will find him a sane, and centric candidates. NOT those liberals who typically argue vainly with us, of course, I’m hoping they are not symptomatic of all liberals...

OK, first, Schultz disappears from the Lame-Stream Media pages, now he has disappeared from here.
Are you guys in on the conspiracy to keep him out of the focus?

I can't bring myself to support the man who introduced a $5 cup of coffee to the country.

But to your point, this would be a good place to evaluate him objectively as a potential option. I think it makes sense for the collective minds here to proffer viable alternative candidates for evaluation...discuss their positions on the issues v. focusing on who they did.

Bick, I agree, except that "who they did" speaks directly to the person's character, especially if it was done behind a spouse's back, and if it was a porn star (or Marilyn Monroe), and if they were paid off to keep their mouths shut. I would find it hard to vote for a person like that.

MDD - The difference for me on the character thing is, I don't believe there is an objective way to ascertain a politician's character with any certainty. Fact is, we don't really know these people. Coupled with the opposition's drive to "expose" and exploit any semblance of impropriety for their political gain, making character a key aspect of a politician's ability to do the job ranks very low on my list of attributes. Besides that, I'll leave the judging of a person's character that I really don't know in the hands of someone a lot more qualified than you or I.
BTW - That is a stark contrast with where I place character in the friends and acquaintances I choose to associate with, or leave myself exposed to. While I work on my forgiveness skill set, I haven't quite mastered it yet.
