Fryer reports that there are discussions about using CalPreps rankings to determine league placements-(football only) and as a result the top league (if they did it this year) would be MD, SJB, OLu, SM, MV and LosAl. JSerra would go down a division and Servite two.
Unless they schedule non-league games you'd lose the SM/JSerra and MD/Servite rivalry games, as well as LosAl/Edison and MV/San Clemente.
I'm not a fan of this..

Fryer said each league would be six teams, and that a 65%/35% multiplier would be used on the last two years' power ratings. I've spoken to two actual members of the releaguing committee who said otherwise, but let's assume Fryer is right. If this system were in place now, the top 2023 O.C. leagues would be:

If they did this Bosco might well leave the OC Area and go play in the CAA (LA Catholic league). Fit right into the Mission League for all sports.

I'd rather see a top league of

Mission
Los Al
Edison
Norco

Winner plays Folsom or whoever emerges on top up north for state
And let the privates have at it with
MD
Bosco
Sierra Canyon
Chaminade
OLu
St Margarita
Winner plays DeLaSalle for state

If they use the Cal Preps re-league proposal outlined above, it would simply mirror the playoff format in theory. Would likely be easier and more equitable in playoff seedings. I would not like so much the naming League #1, #2 , #3 and so on! Throwing those great traditional leagues (names) in the football archive dustbin would be sad.
I like Bicks vacillating variation, not that it hasn't been discussed before, the separation of publics and privates. I always supported that based on the notion of "like" schools or programs, (same way you use "like" comps in real estate) should compete against each other. However, that line is rapidly becoming more and more blurred as publics adopt the m/o that privates have used to build, recruit "Super Teams".
Just the notion that these ideas are being looked at tells me change is a coming. To me the objective would be (if you are to make changes) to have leagues be competitive within from Friday night to Friday night. Slogging around your stadium seat to games often 42-7 (Sometimes at the half) does not do much for the fan base and especially the kids. I hope should they make moves they turn out for the betterment of the game.

The best example might be Servite, which went from the #2 team in the Southern Section in 2021 (91.2 power rating) to #53 in 2022 (28.4 power rating). The '21 rating would still be enough to keep them in the #2 league in Orange County for next fall. I didn't mean to imply that's what the leagues would be named. I just used it as a way of defining the quality of the leagues in order. It's no secret that the top privates around the country have already seriously discussed the formation of an independent national "conference". The pro forma profit estimates to the schools is staggering, based on TV revenue, streaming revenue, legacy advertising, social media, general sponsorships, merchandising, etc. Furthermore, the monetary hit to the CIF would be just as shocking. The days when they could pocket all the revenue from a D-1 championship game at the Rose Bowl and throw the participating schools a token bone of $2,200 will be over. So be careful what you wish for. Don't be like the Democrats, where you knee-jerk to a decision without thinking through all the peripheral impacts it will have. |

It’s called the CIF SS D1 championship game. This is the de facto state championship game. The actual state open championship game has become a formality. Having a true state-wide tournament will not change the inevitable, and travel considerations make this logistically and financially unattainable for many, if not most, schools. |

ADs will vote to keep the trinity intact and institute football only leagues for everyone else.

The latest iteration has the Trinity starting together, and then the top 4 publics, followed by mostly 6 team leagues.
Getting 5 pre league games was already a challenge for the top teams. Now it almost ensures a week 0 or 00 start just to get 10 games, and almost assuredly travel.
Assuming the playoff divisions didn't change, can anyone share what this was intended to accomplish?

One surprising change in girls sports-Rosary to drop out of the Trinity League to play in a nine-school Pacific Coast Conference that would include Laguna Beach, Irvine, Northwood, Portola, Sage Hill, St. Margaret’s, University and Woodbridge.
Rosary basketball has been strong in recent years (open division)-I suspect they have not been competitive in the remaining girls sports in the TL.
