In light of the recent damage done to Norte Dame Cathedral, I thought I'd take this opportunity to share a little gem on Twitter called Architectural Revival.

You gotta hand it to the French: while they might have some of the most messed up politics in the Western world (and that's not even considering the Revolution of 1789), they have managed to create some of the most beautiful buildings in the world.

Not sure if this qualifies as a classical building project, but the fact that this wonder was constructed in the depths of the Great Depression makes it even more impressive. Today, the environmentalists lawsuits would get this thing stopped in its tracks before a single concrete pour.

Hoover Dam kind of looked like that last summer... As far as the architecture, the bridge they added a decade ago was done in the same form as the dam, they look as if they could have been built at the same time.

I'm a restoration aficionado...., didn't think this forum would ever travel down this road , I am constantly battling the restoration vs renovation lines. I presently own a home in Pasadena in a landmarked district in which my home is protected for the most part as far as the exterior goes or can be seen from the street. I learned a hard lesson while living on the west side of LA and after finishing 13 years of restoration to my 1928 Spanish Revival, upon selling, it was bulldozed for a McMansion in which to this day I still . Knowing this would one day to come due to land values far exceeding land I bought east in an area and neighborhood I knew this could never happen. My work in Pasadena will endure. With that I bring you a fun place to scroll through where some of the most insane architecture and history across America is available, mostly in need of being saved. have a look, it's fun, leads to dreams and as the say in their byline, "The most architecturally-intact rabbit hole you’ve ever fallen down."

Just restored a 1908 Craftsman house in a historic district in San Diego. Many of the homes in the area are Victorian architecture. I actually like those better.
Had to redo the plumbing and electrical, and a few walls to drywall from the old lathe and plaster. California cooler box built in, as well as those huge wood moldings and built in cabinets. Get this... ZERO termite damage on 100 yr old wood. Sewage drain lines were what you might expect to see on an ocean liner... massive.
But the electrical... how that house didn't burn down from this old bare wires on ceramic spindles is beyond me. Great project. Now an Airbnb.

Impressive work. You should post some photos.
Really interesting houses on those Instagram sites. If the wife see those she'll get the itch to finally be done with the high cost of living and ridiculous politics of California. Shoot, we could pay cash for a few of the cheaper places and kiss the mortgage goodbye.

Yup zero termite damage in old wood = homes built from 100 year old wood vs homes now built from young forced wood which is soft and pours. Termites go through new lumber like paper mache'!

To all our Jesuit-educated members: Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
Both my grandfather ('24) and father ('62), as well as a few uncles, were proud Loyola H.S. graduates.

@bick, do you do that for a living construction/home improvement? Or had someone do it for you...? You buying and selling properties?

SK80... I'm a restaurant guy. Remodeled mother in law's house, and now it's a rental. Hired a contractor...not a RE investor per se, but this will become a piece of retirement income.
