If I were KJP, I'd pray to God that I had enough intelligence to see I was an idiot. And then I'd blow my brains out.

Can't argue with Mater Dei's success. But I can argue with the behavior of their players and some coaches. I've been huge fan of MD over the years, but they need to be reigned in a bit. Just my opinion. 7 on 7 culture has dominated the program for the last few years. Maybe a change at MD will bring change to the rest of hsfb, but I doubt it. In the old days, they would kick your ass, shake your hand, do the pride drill, and go back to the grotto.

7 v 7 culture has permeated pretty much all of HS football, and it's damn nauseating to a LOT of people.
Had a Los Al grad from '77 in my ear about how it keeps him from coming to games.

I don't understand why he was the hire in the first place. His persona must have been familiar to the administration. Assuming that the plan was to continue on the same business plan path you really would need a part coach/part CEO individual to run a wide ranging program, as has been stated above. Whatever your opinions about Coach Rollinson, he was considered charismatic by many and must have had excellent organizational skills. The school surely had had a large number of applicants and I would have thought it wouldn't be that difficult to find somebody who could do X's and O's but also handled the PR. Maybe I'm wrong there.
Coach McManus demonstrated in 1 year that he could certainly handle the head coach part but from all I have heard from various sources his was not the most attractive personality. I won't repeat the various descriptors I have heard but they all indicate a common theme. Actually, in a program like that you don't really need the sharpest X and O's guy because you're going to be recruiting loads of talent. But to maintain that you have to have the CEO skills. In this type of program I'm not certain which is the more important but you definitely gotta have both.
This next hire may indicate what path the school wants to choose. It will be interesting to see.....................Luca

In the basketball world a parallel to MD is Sierra Canyon. Don't know if Andre Chevalier is the greatest X/O guy-but he has to have great people skills to manage the celebrity/NBA spawn (and their parents) that play for him.

Mater Dei is one of the few HS's that's a true national brand. Closest thing you will get to playing for say Alabama or USC in high school in the entire country. The uniforms (like Alabama, USC, Michigan) have only had minor tweaks over the last 50 years. With that in mind-coach has to be not only a x/o guy, but a CEO/brand manager as well. Full PR teams to support him and lots of assistant coaches carrying out his wishes.
An example of a CEO HSFB hire-Victor Santa Cruz at JSerra. DII head coach for many years, also a D1 college coordinator at Hawaii. It's the model for MD or any other TL/private school program.

At this uber-elite academy level of football, you damn well better have multi faceted professional CEO skills. No different than any other high end business, and it's not for everyone now that NIL has made inroads into the sport. Even college level coaches tap out at the new reality.
