Ukraine has fired US-supplied longer-range missiles at a target inside Russian territory for the first time, a day after Washington gave its permission for such attacks. US officials confirmed use of the Army Tactical Missile System (Atacms) to CBS news, the BBC's US partner. Russia's defence ministry earlier said the strike targeted the Bryansk region bordering Ukraine to the north on Tuesday morning. *snip*
These missiles can carry conventional and nuclear weapons and can hit parts of Russia including Moscow in minutes. Any of these missiles heading to Moscow could be seen as a nuclear first strike and the Russians will need to fire their missiles to keep them from being destroyed on the ground. This is why Russia invaded Ukraine in the first place to stop NATO from doing this.
I don't know why Europe is so calm over this?

I was watching Sky news last night and on the ticker it said Putin just signed an order making it easier for Russia to fire nuclear missiles.

I don't know that that's the most accurate assessment of what the ATACMS can do or was intended to do, tarmac. It is not a first strike weapon and cannot reach Moscow at any rate.
First off, Ukraine doesn't have any nuclear weapons.
Second, if it were anybody's intent to fire nukes at Russia you wouldn't use a relatively short range missile that couldn't penetrate more than 200 miles into Russia, because it wouldn't impair Russia's ability to respond with their own nukes. If you are going to launch a nuclear attack on a country you disable THEIR nuclear weapons first, and Russia’s are way outside the range of the ATACMS which has a maximum range of 190 miles. Moscow is almost 500 miles away from the Ukrainian border. Third, Russia did not invade Ukraine to stop NATO from launching a nuclear attack. If you recall, they invaded because they denied the existence of Ukraine as a national entity and to eradicate the "Nazis" that controlled it (sorta sounds like the Democrats strategy re: Trump, doesn't it?). None of the NATO countries would launch a nuclear attack from inside Ukraine in the first place. Why would they?...............Luca

I don't know why Europe is so calm over this? Did you see inside Edition tonight... or read People magazine? I agree, Tramac, this is a big deal. But Americans (and I guess Europeans) aren't that interested in this stuff. Luca, you are right, these are not nuclear capable missiles and no such missiles have been supplied by the Brits on US. yet. Some more information:

I was joking SK. It seems like people are more interested in celebrity cr@p than WWIII. Lockheed's share price rose yesterday. New sales are expected. Americans live in a bubble, although the last election gives me hope.
