I really do not want to believe Trump is this brilliant strategist, baiting the democrat haters into these sinkholes... but looking back and including this latest one, DAY’um, it sure is starting to look that way:
Im just going to guess Matt Gaetz won’t be getting any plum committee assignments in this Congress...

As this all unfolds this morning I can start to see a card being shown here by those on the left it part of this opposing party known as the Democrats. They must feel and know they can not beat Trump in any straight up election. They understand he will prevail for another 4 year term. It is obvious at this point they are lobbing desperation missiles hoping to hit any target. The collateral damage to themselves and the country will be detrimental. Astonishing resort they have chosen to inflict.

Agree with SK80 on the above. The Democrats' strategy here may simply be--in their lunatic rage--to make things so intolerable for all parties and people that they might convince enough voters (and a handful of GOP members of Congress) that the only way to restore working government is to vote out Trump in 2020.
This is the child's antic of I'll throw a fit until I get my way. When actual adults are in charge, though, this doesn't work. Doesn't work for my kids, and I don't think it will work with the voters.
Impeachment may pass (barely) in the House but is DOA in the Senate, like with Clinton in 1998. The Dem's argument to the voters will be, "Do you really want to re-elect a President who has the stain if impeachment on his record?"
My answer: "Hell yes!" Trump supporters will only be more energized to vote for Trump next November. This is Kavanaugh on steroids.

You take the Hillary and the paid fake dossier story in Russia as well now as this Joe Biden and son story and literally throw those out the window but stuck by this bogus Trump collusion story for two years that flood and now make this new and latest one up.... WTF is wrong with the minds of America?
And yes add the fake and disgusting case brought upon Brett Cavanaugh. It is simply all too insane.

What would really be funny is if the Democrats succeeded in not only impeaching Trump in the House, but had the Senate convict him of the charges and evict him from office, it would be their worst nightmare:
1) Pence would become President and since he is further right on many social issues than Trump, the Alphabet folks would really have something to worry about; 2) Trump would probably immediately jump in the race as an independent, creating havoc with the election. A candidate must get a majority of electoral college votes in order to win and a Trump/Pence/Warren election could easily end up with no one getting 270 electoral votes. That would mean the presidential election goes to the House and the Vice Presidential election goes to the Senate. Can you imagine a Dem president with a Republican or independent VP? What chaos!! 3) Even if he doesn't run or is not re-elected as an Independent, do you really think Trump would go away quietly? There would be a daily voice, louder than Howard Stern, constantly hammering Washington DC, the Media and the Deep State, but now it would be from a Trump who had nothing to lose and billions of dollars and minutes to spend making life horrible for his enemies.
Be careful what you wish for Dems...

2) Trump would probably immediately jump in the race as an independent, creating havoc with the election. Trump running as an independent would split the conservative vote (which is already a minority) and almost guarantee the Democratic candidate almost every state. It would result in a landslide Dem victory.

This article in the Chicago Tribune is older, but I found it interesting amidst the growing opinions out there that the democrats do not believe (nor, possibly, want) impeachment to remove Trump from office, People like Ben Shapiro have suggested there is another political end-game at play here, the democrats reasoning for which is supported by the obvious fact that even if they DID succeed in getting the case over to the Senate to decide, the likelihood of getting the necessary super majority vote to remove him from office is almost nil. So, what do you think IS their reason for, now, proceeding?

Someone like Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders is going to push moderate democrats & independents towards Pence, especially in the middle of the country. People like you, who wouldn't have voted for Trump and may not have voted at all, would now have someone they could be happy to cast a vote for in Pence, so it wouldn't really siphon off any Trump votes. I'm not saying the Democrat would not get the most electoral votes, I just don't believe they would get to 270. Pence would win the states that were fairly middle ground, but didn't necessarily like Trump (Minnesota, Virginia, maybe Colorado) and Trump would pick of those states that were Gung-Ho MAGA. A Warren or Sanders would get the Coasts, and some of the states that did indeed split the conservative/MAGA vote, but I don't see it reaching 270.

I think it would be a grand idea when Trump wins a second term if, two months in, he resigns leaving Pence as President.
I would love to be a fly on the wall in the subsequent Democrat Caucus meeting... which would, of course, have to be on a ground floor to stop all those intent on hurling themselves out upper story windows.

If the Democrats are stupid enough to pass impeachment in the House--on a purely partisan vote--it is DOA in the Senate. Any GOP senator who voted for impeachment would be ending his political career, and possibly hastening the extinction of the Republican Party. Either way the Democrats will be punished by the voters, and Trump will win a bigger victory in 2020 than in 2016.

To me, the most upsetting thing about that cartoon is the image of Nancy Pelosi wearing prostitute stilettos.
