Well, since it seems MD will not be accepting young Mr. Dickey into school, any guesses where he will end up? Bosco, Los Al, MV,SM or CC would seem likely possibilities..

Seems pretty official to me or else some papers will have egg on their face.

There's something special about the community getting behind a local HS football team, and I think that should be the overarching goal of a public school program, or more importantly, the entity that oversees the administration like CIF.

I remember back in '06-'11 at Cypress, we were building a very strong community following that was starting to mirror what they had going at La Habra. I'm pretty sure MDD remembers a game we hosted Mater Dei at CHS (WITH pads, SK80) that came down to the last seconds on a controversial call at the goal line.

Unfortunately, the district continued to RIF Fenton year after year until he bolted, and then Cobleigh took over for a couple really successful years. When he stepped down, the principal brings in a retread coach instead of continuing with the direction that had been established by Fenton & Cobleigh, and turned the program on its head.

Point to all this is that it takes a helluva lot more than just the coaching staff to have a successful community based program like La Habra with Mazzota, and Edison had with Dave White, and Newport had with Jeff Brinkley.

Granted, La Habra and Edison were beneficiaries of being in large districts that allowed kids to go to any school in the district, regardless of proximity to the school. Mission Viejo enjoys the same deal with its ag program.

Bottom line is this, until / unless schools revert to proximity based, or in the case of parochial schools, faith based enrollment, we'll continue to see an erosion of interest in HS sports. While travel sports have a much higher level of talent, there's not nearly the same community support.
