Speaking of "Old Time" sports, the Angels are releasing Albert Pujols today. He is a great guy, but he was probably worth about 20% of what they paid him over the last ten years.

His HOF level stuff had him wearing a jersey with a couple birds on it.
Agree... Seemed like a really good guy.

Since the Angels are still on the hook for his salary the rest of this season, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a contract with the Cardinals and play out this last year with them, even if it's just as a pinch hitter.
Besides, Jared Walsh is hitting the hell out of the baseball last season and this, and the Angels could no longer afford to let Pujols cut into his playing time.

Yeah, he was benched against a starting pitcher that he has always hit well, and there was a bit of a dust-up. What bothers me is that Joe Maddon was "instructed" to make that decision.

I still have no idea how WAR is calculated, but this is a pretty cool graphic of the progression of all-time leaders.

My perception was, Moreno was most interested in getting the team on TV when he signed Pujols, and it worked because Fox Sports covered a ton of our games... MAYBE Pujol's salary is the reason we keep seeing the Angels interested in this starting pitcher and that starting pitcher over the years, but bailing out of the bidding early (?)... could Moreno suddenly be concerned about the salary cap? We have the 2nd best BA in MLB, but we're wasting all that skill because our pitching sux...MAYBE, once Albert is off our books, we can see a starter or two... or a few relievers who won't throw [ sic] a nice lead into the ditch. Too much to hope for?

First, there is no salary cap in baseball for Moreno to worry about. There is a luxury tax, but if you're willing to pay it, you can go as high as you want in player salaries.
Moreno has always been enamored with homerun sluggers. The only free agent pitcher he's ever signed who was marginally considered a top tier guy was C.J. Wilson, and he turned out to be a bust. When you consider all the old sluggers he's signed who also busted, maybe he should try the pitching path again. I've been an Angels fan since Dean Chance won the Cy Young in 1964, and this is the most pathetic pitching staff they've ever had.

It's O.K. for you to have thoughts you DON'T share here. 🤷🏻♂️ Second, most of us have been coveting pitching since Gene Autry's fondness for sluggers in the twilight of their careers, so I completely agree Arte should look at what the TEAM needs and not so much what he wants.

Albert Pujols is about to sign with the Dodgers for the rest of the season, and the Angels get the privilege of paying his $30 million salary. It couldn't have turned out much worse for the Angels, who can't seem to take a single step without stomping on their penis.

I've been watching footage of Trout and Ohtani sending the pitches into the cheap seats. Just two examples of the skill we are wasting because our relief pitchers suck... which supports your criticism about the Angels incapacity to make a move...

Lifelong Halo Fan, depressing to watch one of the greatest players in Trout get little support or help on the field, and yes the mound. The Pujols move was a gamble, one to put fanny's in the seats honestly... gotta love Albert, no disgrace in him signing for that money and giving everything he could, his age is now too much to overcome.
And yes, the Dodgers and the fan base should they go all the way will stomp Angel Fan if AP plays a part in their success.

Just two examples of the skill we are wasting because our relief pitchers suck... Unfortunately, the starting pitchers (with the exception of Ohtani) suck just as much as the relievers. The worst ERA in the major leagues despite playing half their games in what is slightly a pitchers' ballpark is a good indicator of that.
