No. They don’t have a chance against private schools that practice no restraint. How could they? Matt Logan is arguably the best HC in D1, but he doesn’t have a prayer against pipeline programs that can shop around for whatever holes they need to fill.
And why should they even schedule them? It’s HSFB versus club teams. ...................Luca

I have to agree with Luca. As a long time fan of HS football, it’s sad to see what has become of the game in D1. Bishop Gorman has made a joke of Nevada HS football with their 10 or so state titles in a row and I never thought we would see that her is SoCal but we have. When Logan has zero chance to compete, that tells you how bad it is. Mater Dei filled a kicking hole with a senior transfer from Bakersfield? A kicker free agent? I think I’ve seen it all now.
On a side note, I do like the D1/D2 split. Gives hope to other teams but no one wants to be the other 6 teams in that D1 tournament I can assure you.

I remember some 15+ years ago being one of the only posters I knew who was opposed to the institution of a California state championship series. I was afraid that it would lead to the deterioration of local football. At that time, winning a CIF southern section championship was the ultimate achievement. But once you instituted a state championship the focus would change such that winning a CIF Southern Section title would become secondary, the equivalent of winning a league title. There was something more to shoot for now and certain programs would wind up doing whatever it would take to be dominant on the state level. This would dramatically diminish the local rivalries and competition. And that’s exactly what it did. The local rivalries and traditional competition were marginalized in favor of emphasizing the “big picture.“
I regret very much that this was correct. I’d like to think I was prescient, but honestly I had no idea that it would deteriorate to this degree. Now the club teams focus on national titles, competing against the DLS’s, Bishop Gormans and IMG Academies of the world. Servite versus Mater Dei, once a traditional marquee matchup, is now just a warm-up, a preseason yawner preceding the Real Season. I remember Coach Rollinson telling me just 8 years ago that he was trying to establish a “rivalry” with Santa Margarita. Nice work, Coach.
The CIF SS D1 championship has become the equivalent of a 1970’s Angelus League title................Luca

They would if BJ came back with his cheating ways. Logan cant complain, he continued the 20 transfers a year like MV. I do agree with Luca....I knew the arms race would be on as soon as their instituted and State Championships. BTW Luca, a school that hired Dirty Harry Welch really should back off the MD issues. Especially J. Serra! 17 starters this year are transfers.

Coach! What year did Mission have 20 football transfers? I’ve been following MV for 23 years, 5-8 is most during any one year that I can recall, I know you must have the numbers otherwise we would have to conclude you are a liar...
