Homegrown = 4 years at same school so what do you call 3 years before the 4 at the same middle/JR.HS ? and what about grade school!

A stable childhood?
For the purposes of homegrown in this discussion, let's agree to all 4 years at the same school. Otherwise, let's not bother trying to figure some other iterations out... Way too time consuming.

It's pretty hard to keep track of that, but if we could get someone from Mater Dei, and someone from Bosco to answer honestly, that would take care of 20 of the 34 names I posted. As for Servite's one and only player on this list, he played freshman ball at Servite last season. Each player usually has a hudl account. I'll do the non Trinity schools except for CDM. SK80 can handle those 3 So I took your advice and found Hudl accounts for the eleven SJB players on the list. Surprisingly, (to me anyway) I found that only two, or possibly three were not home grown: Logan Loya from Orange Lutheran, and Beaux Collins from Notre Dame Sherman Oaks. The "maybe" is Jake Newman who has been at Bosco for his soph and junior seasons, but I can't find where he played as a freshman.

For Mater Dei, C.J. Williams, Kody Epps, Jaylin Davies, Raesjon Davis and Myles Murao are all homegrown.
Kobah Fuamatu, Cristian Dixon and Bryce Young transferred in as sophomores.
Christopher Street, Zion Alefosio and Jeffrey Persi were Mater Dei kids who were POACHED away by their current schools.

Yeah, both of J Serra's players on the list came from Mater Dei. Orange Lutheran's only player on the list (Jason White), is home grown.
That's everybody, except Mater Dei's Sefita Tupe jr. who came from Gardena Serra.
Actually a lot better than I thought for the Trinity League. 15 or maybe 16 (Newman) out of 24 are home grown. About two-thirds.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the Mater Dei and Bosco "players" posing in that commercial were paid actors, and not actual student-athletes from either school. That makes the whole thing even sillier, in my opinion.

Maybe the reality of this xfer business doesn't exactly foot with the perception of it all? Imagine that.

Chris Street was going to take a demotion from #2 to #3 running back his junior year. Maybe get 6 carries a game. At JSerra he gets 20-25 and a scholarship to Cal. Persi might not have got on the field at Mater Dei. Featured O line at JSerra with best O line coach in OC (Harlow). Scholarship to Michigan. Sounds more like enlightened self-interest...

I agree 100% that self-interest played a role. But let's also be totally honest and a little cryptic in agreeing that it was more than just self-interest that caused Zamajay Duncan, Jaden Genova, Earnest McDaniel, Jeff Persi and Chris Street to all transfer from Mater Dei to JSerra within two weeks of each other.

You mean like losing 6 players and 4 coaches in the same week to Servite?
At the end of the day, it's still a function of self interest, regardless of influence.

I think only 1 of 4 ended up coaching there.
No ill will on my end, and I don't think from anyone else over at LA. Wish them all the best. They were fun to be around.
I will say this though. Last year was one of the very best jobs I've seen from the current core coaches at Los Al. They lost 4 good position coaches and likely 4 starters to Servite, lost the OC to Westminster as the HC, had a QB playing on one good leg all year, and a slew of other injuries, yet still went undefeated in league.
I think those guys are pretty happy heading into this season.
