I think it says a lot about the state of high school football today that JSerra has reportedly elected four transfer players as their 2019 captains...three of whom were POACHED from Mater Dei. Of those three MD transfers, how many would be starters if they had not left the Monarchs? Two would be for sure - Chris Street, Jaden Genova. Jeff Persi, was a TE/DL at MD. Hard to say if he would have eventually made his mark on the OL.

Hard to believe a 6-7 265 lb Michigan Wolverine "Commit" would be sitting on the bench or second string on any high school team.... then again.......?

I think it says a lot about the state of high school football today that JSerra has reportedly elected four transfer players as their 2019 captains...three of whom were POACHED from Mater Dei. There is so much unintended irony in this observation that I don’t really know how to respond. Perhaps an analogy would work best. It would be like Conrad Dobler complaining that someone’s a dirty player, Al Capone complaining someone's a dishonest tax cheat, AOC complaining someone's an ill informed publicity seeker, Steve Jobs complaining someone's "demanding", Vladimir Putin complaining someone's a cynical opportunist. Wabash calling someone an intransigent ignoramus (Well, perhaps that one's too harsh). My point being that, yes, it is evidence a very demoralizing trend that 3 of 4 team captains on a HSFB team are transfers. This would have been unheard of even 7 or 8 years ago. But, seriously, with culprits are responsible for this trend?.....................................Luca

Hey who let the out of county spy into the CDM war room.......? Looking at top quarterbacks in Southern California www.latimes.com/sports/high-school/story/2019-07-30/la-sp-top-quarterbacks

As fall practice begins for high school football teams, it’s time to begin looking at players to watch for the 2019 season, leading up to The Times’ nine-part series previewing Southern California’s top players starting on Aug. 14.
The quarterback position offers players the challenge of taking on two of the best in the nation in USC-bound Bryce Young of Santa Ana Mater Dei and Clemson-bound DJ Uiagalelei of St. John Bosco.
The two faced off in last year’s Southern Section Division 1 final won by Mater Dei. Each has spent the off-season getting stronger and working with their respective receiving corps hoping to compete twice this season in league and playoff matchups.
There’s also a group of rising prospects ready to earn their own respect. CJ Stroud of Rancho Cucamonga gained attention during the summer with a No. 1 ranking at the Elite 11 camp and will try to use that momentum during the regular season after passing for 2,343 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior.
Jaden Casey of Calabasas, a Fresno State commit, is coming off a junior season in which he surpassed 3,000 yards passing and had 38 touchdowns. His receiving group is outstanding.
Junior Miller Moss of Alemany made major strides during the summer and appears primed for a productive season. Gardena Serra has competition between UNLV commit Doug Brumfield and highly regarded sophomore Maalik Murphy.
Washington commit Ethan Garbers of Corona del Mar has lots of offensive weapons at his disposal in what should be a fantastic senior season.
Jake Garcia of Narbonne had to sit out the first five games last season after transferring, so having a full junior year should put him in position to be one of the best from the class of 2021. Norco quarterback Shane Illingworth, an Oklahoma State commit, is one of nine returning offensive starters and passed for 29 touchdowns last season.
Mission Viejo has high hopes for junior Peter Costelli, a transfer from Santa Margarita. He gets to train under Chad Johnson, who helped develop Josh Rosen.
Luca Diamont, a Duke commit, has been Venice’s starter since his freshman season. His running and passing skills make him a player to watch in the City Section.
Culver City has high expectations for junior Zevi Eckhaus, who passed for 3,487 yards as a sophomore. Ben Gulbranson of Newbury Park, an Oregon State commit, is healthy and set for an outstanding senior season. Gavin Beerup of St. Bonventure, a Wyoming commit, is 6 feet 4 and making steady progress.
Jameson Wang has left Harvard-Westlake to play his senior season at Oaks Christian, which will be a big jump and challenge but showed promise this summer.
Marco Siderman has regained his health at Westlake, and if he can stay injury free, he has shown the ability to be very productive. Cole Lourd of Brentwood passed for more than 2,000 yards as a sophomore. A year’s experience and better strength ought to translate into even better numbers.
Zach Johnson of Hart, a Cal commit, passed for 2,892 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also rushed for 347 yards, making him a legitimate two-way threat.

If I had to bet, I'd say all three. Then it really seems odd that they would choose to leave to go to a lower ranked program. The reason they left, was that fact they didn't want to wait to be starters. Street didn't want to share carries with Shakobe, and Genova didn't want to wait to be a starter and JSerra had a need for starting LBs. and a RB. Persi was an after thought really. When he was at MD he was 6-5 225. He wasn't anywhere near the depth chart as TE/DL. He got to JSerra and added 40 pounds in 3 months. Would he have developed as OL at MD if he stayed? We don't know. It would have been tough especially for first year lineman learning a new position playing at the level MD does.

Street and Persi absolutely made the right decision to leave. No question.

Luca! What is this? Loyola doing some sort of choreographed dance moves? As far as I can tell it just looks like a bunch of players lined up at the end of practice. If they start sashaying around doing something that looks like "I'm a little teapot, short and stout" then you can call it a hut drill or pride drill or "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies" or whatever. That is a great view and it's not the sunset, by the way. They're facing east and that's the setting sun behind them illuminating the clouds over downtown Los Angeles. The only started playing games on campus over the last few years and I was amazed going back and realizing for the first time what a nice view they had looking to the east. It cracks me up that they had enough political clout to convince the city to close off all of Venice Boulevard on a Friday night for their games. I think there still are plans to build an actual stadium on land that they've acquired but I'm not sure they're going to go through with it. They insist they are not going to join the current trend of private D1 programs so they may never need to have a 6-10,000 seat stadium available.................................Luca

It is an impressive view. When my grandfather attended Loyola during the Harding and Coolidge years--and then the college on the same site--this would've been the tallest building looking east, completed in 1928:

That's the LA City Hall. 1928 sounds about right. That looks like MDDad in the passenger side of the Ford.
But looking at the picture of the practice field, that's got to be a sunrise. It wouldn't be illuminated like that if the sun were behind you.
The kids are in pads but short pants, which means it's got to be at least preseason and not spring practice. So it's probably summer. The lights are on. That means they must start practice before sunrise which would be maybe 6:30.
An 0600 practice? That's only one of the reasons why I'm glad I don't play HSFB anymore...................................Luca
