The amount of penalties in the MV - La Habra game were absolutely insane, especially called against MV. Had to be some kind of a record and basically ruined the game. Mission defense is legit

Mission defense is legit Sounds like the Poly / Los Al game last night. Had to be over 30 penalties combined. Game finally ended at about 10:45. Most ridiculous thing I've seen. Fox guys were laughing about how bad it was.

25 penalties combined at the Sea King tussle in PV and CDM was flagged 12 times against only 4 up at SF Mountain View. If the refs would just back off a bit we would likely see these numbers halved.

It seems officials have been particularly flag-happy this season. Not sure if this is a function of a directive to call the game tighter, or an unintended consequence of mandated less practice time. Whatever the reason, it's causing a detrimental impact to the enjoyment of the game. With already declining attendance and revenues, this condition certainly won't put butts in the seats.

6 refs at LH vs. La Habra, it was stupid, 6 flag throwers, who ever thought this was a good idea needs a government job...
I don’t know how we got by back in the day, but the game has no rhythm and these poor guys are getting trained on the job at the games expense...

PTG, due to the abuse the refs are exposed to by coaches, parents and fans it has become a thankless job with limited chance you would get an experienced or a multitude of applications to take on such a task a high school football referee.

For what it's worth, the officials in Arizona were like a breath of fresh air (although really, really hot air). Much younger on average, and willing to engage and joke with the coaches and others on the sidelines. They still called a good game, but they didn't feel the need to make it seem like we were playing in a prison.
It's also interesting that it was 114 F all three days we were there, but the misery index was much lower than it had been in Orange County the three or four days before we left. Humidity is an ugly thing.

Talk to Corona Centennial fans about the officiating in their game against Cathedral Catholic in San Diego!

Talk to Corona Centennial fans about the officiating in their game against Cathedral Catholic in San Diego! Here's the thing - after reviewing the game video, I didn't disagree with many calls in the Los Al / Poly flag-a-thon of 30+ penalties. Our resident Zebra is on radio silence during the season, but I think we discussed somewhere along the line whether or not flags would be flying for infractions regardless of their impact on the play. I think we'd all agree that no one likes a game slowed down by, or decided by penalties. The question is, should they be called only when it impacts the play? Or should they be called regardless? The former can be a very slippery slope.

Yes it's a slippery slope.
Yes IMHO all penalties that clearly violate the rules set forth should be called as its the only way to teach these players how the game IS or SHOULD be played.
Yes it does impede the progress and flow of the game. And what can be really annoying is the well coached disciplined team gets calls against them unwarranted as "equate" calls as the opponent is so not playing according to rules and not disciplined in its play.
What ya gonna do!
Anyone notice the most obvious non-call in HSF? The kick off. I see about 50% of the time a number of players have crossed the kick off scrimmage line before the ball ever hits the kickers foot. Rarely called. The two plays later the phantom call is made. Frustrating!

OK Zebra...are you flagging this hit on a defenseless cone wearing moron? Clean hit .. defender hit him a little high but he did wrap and follow through. Cone wearing moron wasn't defenseless, he knew he was gonna get blasted.
