Three division 3 schools in the top 8 this year. I'm wondering why the top 8 open division would exclude lower divisions if the idea was to put the Top 8 in the same playoff bracket at the end of the year to provide competitive equity.

Good point, Bick. The Southern Section continues for unknown reasons avoid a true Open Division playoff bracket comprising the eight best of its 378 schools. What you propose would be step in that direction, something several other sections have already had the wisdom to adopt, with the added benefit that the loser of their Open Division championship game is still eligible for a state bowl game. Only the Southern Section, in their infinite stupidity, sees fit to leave St. John Bosco or Mater Dei at home, even when they are both ranked in the top three nationally.

One of these days I'll win you, or someone else, over on an 8 team national playoff.
Top 8 per maxpreps, or some other rating service / combination thereof, send invites out to the top 8 for a national open tournament. Those schools choose to stay home and play in their state tourneys, or play on a legit national stage.

Ya would be kinda hard to end up with a top 8 national rank than wimp out and stay home for state. Hmmmm...., looks like MDDads bequest for CDM to prove it would come to fruition.... #1 MD vs #8 CDM here in this poll!  |
