1963, when the suckbutt Dodgers beat my Yankees, and Sandy Koufax proved he was one for the ages. You're a closet Dodgers fan. Half a century of self flagellation is long enough.

If there are any closets for me to come out of, it certainly won't be the secret Dodgers fan or secret homosexual ones.

I'm still dubious about that home run. A guy playing on one leg swings with one arm at a pitch that's low and a mile outside, and he not only pulls it, but he pulls it over the wall? That should have been a weak grounder to third base. Dude had to be juiced. I’ve always wondered about that, too. He’s off balance with a bad leg, swinging at a bad pitch and it almost looks like he was initially thinking of bunting or trying to foul it off. How the hell he even pulled a low and outside pitch - let alone get it over the right field fence - seems a physical impossibility. It looks like one of those at bats from " Angels in the Outfield". That wasn’t game 7. I can’t remember which game it was. But you got the impression right then that Oakland was screwed. In their dugout after the game they all looked completely defeated, trudging to the locker room. Oakland was a bit favorite as I recall but I do remember having the impression that the series was over already............Luca

Luca is being modest in recalling only the Kirk Gibson World Series. He was only a toddler at the time, but he still has some vague memories of the 1905 Series when the New York Giants' Christy Mathewson pitched three complete-game shutouts against the Philadelphia Athletics, still the greatest pitching performance in Series history.

At least I wasn't male-in-waiting to Abner Doubleday.

Dennis Eckersley gave up that tater to Gibson who, of COURSE was juiced: He didn't even come out of the clubhouse until that at-bat (plenty of time for steroids to get into his blood stream. My favorite memories from that hit were: Vin Scully calling the event, and Dennis Eckersley, slump-shouldered with only his eyes looking at the ball sailing over his head.

If a player shoots anabolic steroids into his ass in the clubhouse, it doesn't help him hit a homerun a few minutes later. That's not how steroids work. You're confusing it with the spinach that Popeye eats and immediately becomes Superman.

Didn't he also have to get a special helmet to fit his head after the shot?
