The first WS I watched in full was the 1979 "We Are Family" Pirates defeating the Orioles in seven games, coming back from being down 3 games to 1. Willie Stargell hit a HR in the clincher; Kent Tekulve pitched the final out in the 9th. I vaguely recall seeing a few moments of the '78 Dodgers-Yankees WS at our neighbor's house since for some reason we didn't have a television at that time.

It was 1959 and I was on vacation somewhere with my parents. I recall my father being fascinated by the outcome. The Dodgers were playing I think it was the White Sox.
It was the bottom of the 9th inning and Larry Sherry was the relief pitcher, and had apparently been the star of the series. Whoever it was was hit the ball back to Sherry who ran it over to first base himself for the final out and I distinctly remember Vin Scully's voice booming:
"And I don't blame him."

The 1974 World Series, game 2 I believe, where Mike Marshall picked off Herb Washington at first to essentially kill the A's 9th inning rally and secure the only win of the series for the Doyers. That year, Washington had appeared in about 90 games as a pinch runner and had 0 at bats.

I could have written that post, if you hadn't beaten me to it. Larry Sherry, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider. Losing the first game of the series to Luis Aparicio and the White Sox something like 11-1...Never had an interest in baseball until then.

The only thing evident from this thread is you all old! Yet not old enough to not harbor memories!

SK, my guess is your first World Series memory is Babe Ruth's called shot in '32 against the Cubs.

I'm still dubious about that home run. A guy playing on one leg swings with one arm at a pitch that's low and a mile outside, and he not only pulls it, but he pulls it over the wall? That should have been a weak grounder to third base. Dude had to be juiced.

Maybe not the "dude" but the ball! I don't know if I can truly remember my FIRST WS memory? As a kid in the 60's I was an avid baseball card collector, still have many of my TOPPS cards. I remember the Amazin's in '69 and really was glued on the A's in the early 70's and those saloon bar mustaches...! Being an avid little California Angel fan I usually had to resort to cheering for another team comes playoffs and WS. I think my first real DEEP memory was the Yankee vs Dodger '77 and '78. It was then my allegiance to the American League was cemented, even against my mother's Dodgers! I would make signs and banners in the house "Yankees Rule" and "Beat LA". It was then I got pleasure watching Dodger Fan in misery! Ya my Angels sucked but so what, you are dying a bigger death! Mine was easy! A side note on to why I possibly have disdain for the Dodgers. In 1961 my parents were at the LA Coliseum when Maury Wills hit his first career home run. My mother in the stands, about 6 months pregnant got so excited she puked. I still have the after-taste!!

UNFORTUNATELY, my first clear memory of a PRE-World Series game was Donnie Moore pitching in Game 5 of the ALCS against Boston, in 1986. I was managing a Manny's Coffee Shop and we had a radio set up on the coffee counter listening to the game.
we were all crushed when Moore gave up that tater to Dave Henderson on that 2-2 pitch... but even more crushed when Moore ended his life and many said it was because he could not get over that loss.
