I heard recently (not firsthand, but I have no reason to disbelieve it) that D.J. Uiagalelei has not taken a class on the St. John Bosco campus for the last two years. He takes his classes online and is only required to be on campus for exams (which I presume are also online). Can anyone with Bosco connections confirm or deny this?
I know for sure that Orange Lutheran has been doing this for years; one of the kids who transferred out of Servite to OLU a couple of years back told of sleeping most of the day in the counseling office since most his classes were taken online. Not sure how many other schools in the Trinity League do the same. Mater Dei?
This practice was floated several years ago at Servite for about five minutes before it was shot down by the faculty. While it's not a violation of any CIF rules, it seems to me to be just another example of the win-at-all-costs mentality, an "accommodation" for out-of-area kids who have only the barest connection to the educational institution and the rest of the student body.

Every kid takes six classes on campus (pus a "zero period" for weightlifting if they want), unless they are carrying more because they developed a plan to graduate one semester early when they were sophomores JSerra and Santa Margarita both offer online classes.

I did a quick look at Bosco's website, and couldn't find any mention of online classes either.

Online classes....? Back in my day the best classes we had at CDM was the "Back Parking Lot" class....! Its where I learned how to tune my '72 Camero, practice my musicianship on a Harmony Stella beater git, conservation of resources like saving water by showering from a gallon of water from a milk jug after an early morning surf session and of course mastering the final art of rolling.....

My only comment to this and it’s somewhat off the topic is that DJ posted his grades at some point last year and the number of class absences was astonishing.

SM offers what they call blended online courses. Classroom attendance is also required with these courses. SM students are only allowed to take one blended online course each semester.

It does sound a little suspect. He has to come to school every day for practice during the season and probably in the off season for weight lifting and for spring practice, etc. Why wouldn't he take classes at the school if he's going to be there anyway?...........................Luca
