Some times, just a guess, upper management will hire assistants the HC gets to work with.

I'm sure you guys are right with coach White. I was just projecting my own prejudice as if I were in the top spot, and my predecessor and mentor came back to work as my assistant.
I'd find it awkward, and probably second guess myself a lot more than if I didn't have such close scrutiny from someone I respected like that.

Will be good for a young HC to have a guy who has “been there” guy on staff...... I know my youngest is excited to play for a legend |

I'm sure the dynamics will work out for you guys at Edison. I was just projecting my own feelings.
Coach White is most definitely a legend there. The 3 years off probably allowed him to RE-CHARGE the batteries as well. (see what I did there?)
