One thing that I hate, is when someone says "He lied" about something that simply turns out to be untrue. If he didn't know that his assertion was untrue, then that isn't a lie. He was simply mistaken. They don't care. They say "He lied!" No, he was just wrong. There's a big difference.

I'm on board with this as well, and it started back with the right saying the exact same thing about Obama. A "lie" requires intent.

OK, guys, I know when I'm outnumbered. Trump doesn't lie, he just str-e-e-e-e-e-tches the truth. He doesn't lie, he's just boastful. And he doesn't lie, he just exaggerates the facts. Will you guys listen to your semantic excuses for a minute? The level of delusion here is almost knee-deep now.

If I say it's 60 degrees outside, and it turns out to be only 54 degrees, did I lie, if I thought it was 60?

I don't think we're talking semantics here, but you're right in the sense that he does not present facts objectively as I would expect from everyone on this board. But neither does ANY politician or media outlet I've ever known. Don't they all want to present things in a light that reflects best on them? While we aren't going to change the narratives of the national media, maybe here we can discuss things in more objective terms of right and wrong, and the degrees of both as it relates to the various claims from either side. Would be a helluva lot more productive.

Monarch proponents say they don't cheat, they just recruit within the rules. They don't cheat, they just give underprivileged youth an opportunity to go to a private school. They don't cheat, they are just trying to spread the Catholic faith to nonbelievers. Neither Trump nor Rollinson/McKnight are men that I would have any interest in spending time with, but all are similiar in being able to get the job at hand accomplished.

I’m not sure this is even a legit argument.
Trump has become a politician who used to be a businessman. Of course he has told untruths. ALL politicians do, but some do tell bigger whoppers than others.
It doesn’t matter if we call it “half-truth” or “little white lies” or “stretching the truth,” if it is not the truth, it is not the truth.
I told my step-daughter an untruth when she would ask me if I liked her drawing of Simba (or Pumbah, or any of the Disney characters). Her drawings were not very good, but I was not goi;g to tell her that. I absolutely intended to lie.
I would PREFER a president who is doing acceptable work AND who doesn’t lie. But for the last 30 years of my political awareness, I cannot think of anyone who was...or is.

I've got another take on this whole "lie" thing that I think is relevant. The fact is, for the most part, no one knows with certainty what the intent of the "liar" is. Because of this, by calling a person a liar, the accusers themselves...are liars. In fact, they are worse than the accused liar(s) because the accusers often stand to gain by bearing this false witness against the accused. We are far to loose with tossing people into that bucket.
It's far better to evaluate / judge our representatives based on their accuracy, and the degree of the miss than to dismiss the issue entirely if inaccurate. If a person is consistently inaccurate, then that judgement would at least be factual and a helluva lot less hyperbolic.

Some good points here, Bick. Almost everything out of the mouths of most politicians is spin designed to manipulate others and to leverage their own positions, whether or not it actually qualifies as "lie." If you want a textbook example of a full-on lie, with the intent to deceive, see the 0:20 mark on this video:

Another blaring difference is the media was not interested in fact checking or hounding Obama or most any Democrat politician about there lies..... there is always an army of fact checkers every time a Republic opens their mouths...... Read these lines by Obama, outright lies. Everyone knew (knows) that the Permian Basin had (has) more oil and shale and could produce more oil per day than any other region on the planet. But the President Obama knew his constituents, his friends in the Media and Hollywood did not want to hear these facts that he surely knew or was aware of. "We are not going to drill ourselves to lower gas prices"? B*LLSH*T ! Not only are gas prices now lower unTrump but for the first time in forever the US is exporting more a commodity in oil than importing in!

Despite this, the Hunt for Trump goes on. But it won't work.
