I will hopefully have a photo to post later today from one of the beautiful beaches of O.C.
My first stop was Big Corona which has remained OPEN all through this...., the parking lot has been closed but the various access walks and stairs have been open for those wanting to go up or down to the ocean. As I approached Ocean Blvd I could see the orange plastic fencing that had been used for other various restrictions like benches etc was now pulled across those entrances. I did a simple drive by and wasn't sure how effective those barriers really were going to be. Remind you, around CDM beaches its mostly residential and I suspect most residents are not to eager to break the chains of law. Now Newport on the other hand...
I arrived on the peninsula at 3 pm, it was pretty quiet, much more than I expected. It was a Friday but I suspect all the rant by the Dictator Newsome convinced many to not make the drive....
With that, on Facebook, Blackies by the Sea OPENED for take out and drinks... I mean REAL DRINKS! My #1 bartender was hosting and I had the usual, Jim Beam on the rock with a splash of Gran Marnier and bitters...., they were serving in handy sized to go cups and the rule was you had to by one item of food..., they don't really have that much of a menu so it was a bag of chips to stay "legal"... (wtf is legal anyway?)
The wife and I drank on the boardwalk right out front, something you would normally get arrested for, we then joined the other THOUSANDS of people out on the sand walking, sunning, swimming, surfing. There were temporary state NO TRESPASSING sign from CA. STATE all over but there was NO ENFORCEMENT!
We walked down to th water, ocean breeze in our face, then toes in the sand wading in the water. I had my wife next to me and my cocktail in hand and I turned back looking at the town and felt proud (yet again) to be a citizen of Newport Beach. The best part of my day was when a sand buggy with 6 uniformed officers riding in it made there way past us and I gave them a casual thumbs up and I got one back... RESPECT.
Gavin Newsome closed the OC BEACHES. Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes said we won't enforce that nonsense, Newport Beach City Council, Mayor and Police Chief did just the same.
